Compilation Week – TBTCI Dives Into Asian Sounds

The Blog That Celebrates Itself Records (TBTCI) specialises in producing compilation tribute album whether to an artist, label or even part of the world. This latest compilation is a roundup of the Asian Scene and includes both covers as well as new or recent original recordings. Musically the album contains indiepop, shoegaze and dreampop. Standout tracks come from Indonesian noise pop outfit See The Eye, Chinese Shoegazers Dear Eloise and Jaapn’s Fluffytails with a gorgeous cover of Lemon’s Chair’s SWallowtail. However Indonesian post-punk outfit Pullo win it for me Round The Bed complete with Ian Curtis style vocals. It’s a … Continue reading Compilation Week – TBTCI Dives Into Asian Sounds

Compilation Week – Indietracks Compilation 2018

The UK’s premier DIY-pop/indiepop festival is approaching fast as one of the Midland Railway Centre’s restored steam trains. There are over 50 bands playing, including two Sarah Records bands, with British Sea Power headlining on the Saturday night. As in previous years there is a cut price compilation available featuring 40 of the artists playing including the likes of Night Flowers, Melenas, Even As We Speak, Boyracer, LInda Guilala, Tinsel Heart and many more. I have not been for a few years now so this is the nearest I am getting – for now! Indietracks takes place between 27th and … Continue reading Compilation Week – Indietracks Compilation 2018

Deaf – Truancy

More dark post-punk this time from New Zealand’s Deaf who, after a bit of digging, I found to be made up of former members of Sunken Sea and Tiddabades who remain unheard of by me. Truancy is an amazing debut song made distinctive by the unique vocals of Luke Kavanagh. Fleeting synths and toned guitars add to the mix giving the track a haunting atmospheric feel. A keeper and a taster for the debut EP that is due out later this year. Maybe those previous bands will not be unheard of for much longer! Facebook Continue reading Deaf – Truancy

Something For The Weekend – Three from Forthcoming Debut Albums

This weeks pack of three features three tracks from forthcoming debut albums. The Beths – Future Me Hates Me The title track from the forthcoming debut album from New Zealand band The Beths. It’s a fine slice of alt rock that will embed itself into your head due to it’s bounce. The album is out on August via Carpark Records – pre-order it from here. Facebook Young Scum – Wasting Time Superior jangle pop from Young Scum and a prelude to their debut, yet again self titled, album. Wasting Time, like 2016’s Zona, is pure pop perfection. It’s out on … Continue reading Something For The Weekend – Three from Forthcoming Debut Albums

Soma Cake – Hopes and Fears

Hopes and Fears is taken from Soma Cake’s recently released Girls Bite Harder album. It’s a guitar driven post punk track which, despite it’s melancholy lyrics, has a catchy melodic feel about it. Now I am off to grab the aforementioned album hoping that they can maintain the standard this single has set. Both the single and album can be downloaded digitally from here. Facebook Continue reading Soma Cake – Hopes and Fears

Something For The Weekend? Damnably Presents – Attyuuma (Blink Of An Eye) 2018 Tour

London based promoter and label Damnably are promoting an excellent gig featuring their artists at London’s Scala on Thursday 19th April. I am there with bells on. This weeks pack of three features a track from each band playing. Otoboke Beaver – anata watashi daita ato yome no meshi Japan’s Otoboke Beaver are headlining and anata watashi daita ato yome no meshi is their latest single (Feb 18). I like the bands brand of shouty garage punk and this single is no exception. You can buy the band’s music from here. Facebook Say Sue Me – After Falling Asleep After … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Damnably Presents – Attyuuma (Blink Of An Eye) 2018 Tour

Fawns of Love – Zine Days

I quite enjoy the Gothic tinged post-punk produced by the Fawns of Love. They mix Jenny Andreotti’s excellent vocals, that draw comparisons with those of the Cocteau’s Elizabeth Fraser, with a guitar based sound reminiscent of Joy Division/early New Order to great effect. Flip side Something Stupid is my pick of the two tracks here sounding like it was lifted straight from Garlands. Zine Days is available on 7″ and digital formats which you can order from here. The band even created a playlist of all the songs that inspired them whilst writing Zine Days. Amazingly the Cocteau Twins are … Continue reading Fawns of Love – Zine Days
