Bootchy Temple – Lady Sunshine

The Bordeaux based band Bootchy Temple have been releasing tunes for a few year now but this is the first time I have heard anything by them. And what an introduction it is as Lady Sunshine sounds like Stereolab if they were making a track for inclusion on C86. It’ s short, sweet and brilliant. Must delve into their back catalogue at some point – adds another name to the list! Lady Sunshine is taken from the album Glimpses that will be released later this month on Howlin’ Banana Records. Pre-order from here. Facebook Continue reading Bootchy Temple – Lady Sunshine

September Round Up #2

Рыцарь Диких Яблок – Дворец Not sure I am trusting google translate here but the band and recording translate as Palace by Knight of Wild Apples. What I do know is that this is a very fine indiepop EP indeed. Forget the fact this Saint Peterburg based band sing in their native Russian (and why not) and let the music and harmonies do the translating for you. Class. Grab it for free/pay what you want from here. Homepage Ping Pong Club – Sklylight Talking about classy indiepop here is another fine effort from Bandung’s Ping Pong Club that just shines … Continue reading September Round Up #2

August Round Up #2

It’s been a bit quiet around here recently so let’s rectity that with a few tunes. Citrus Clouds – Golden Sun Reverb heavy indie/dream pop from Arizona and follow up to last years excellent Ultrasound LP. Facebook Deaf – Shards I really enjoyed Deaf’s Truancy single and Shards carries on in pretty much the same vein. It’s an enjoyable track with a strong retro feel yet sounds like something fresh. Another strong vocal performance from Luke Kavanagh whose voice has has a ring of Billy Mackenzie to it. Facebook СТОПКРАН & Please Tokyo – Split Interesting split cassette from two … Continue reading August Round Up #2

July Round Up #1

As I mentioned the other day it’s been a bit quiet around here due to a job change so this weekend will be two posts dedicated to catching up on what I have been listening too over the past couple of weeks. Hyperdream – Selfish Dream Excellent shoegaze from Mexico. More than a few nods towards MBV (a speeded up version of Swallow?) both soundwise and cover art. Really liking this one. Facebook Flowerbox – Flowerbox An interesting and strong debut EP covering both indiepop and shoegaze. Most of the songs are slow paced which gives you time to appreciate … Continue reading July Round Up #1

Compilation Week – TBTCI Dives Into Asian Sounds

The Blog That Celebrates Itself Records (TBTCI) specialises in producing compilation tribute album whether to an artist, label or even part of the world. This latest compilation is a roundup of the Asian Scene and includes both covers as well as new or recent original recordings. Musically the album contains indiepop, shoegaze and dreampop. Standout tracks come from Indonesian noise pop outfit See The Eye, Chinese Shoegazers Dear Eloise and Jaapn’s Fluffytails with a gorgeous cover of Lemon’s Chair’s SWallowtail. However Indonesian post-punk outfit Pullo win it for me Round The Bed complete with Ian Curtis style vocals. It’s a … Continue reading Compilation Week – TBTCI Dives Into Asian Sounds

Compilation Week – Indietracks Compilation 2018

The UK’s premier DIY-pop/indiepop festival is approaching fast as one of the Midland Railway Centre’s restored steam trains. There are over 50 bands playing, including two Sarah Records bands, with British Sea Power headlining on the Saturday night. As in previous years there is a cut price compilation available featuring 40 of the artists playing including the likes of Night Flowers, Melenas, Even As We Speak, Boyracer, LInda Guilala, Tinsel Heart and many more. I have not been for a few years now so this is the nearest I am getting – for now! Indietracks takes place between 27th and … Continue reading Compilation Week – Indietracks Compilation 2018

Compilation Week – The Spirit of ’82... Alcopop! Records Summer Sampler 2018

A right mixed bag this one and to be fair that’s what compilations should be about. The fuzzy and noisy pop contingent lead the way (Happy Accidents, Spook School) and Kississippi’s indiepop is a delight. There are also good efforts from itoldyouiwouldeatyou and Youth Man, both of which have post-punk elements about them. However the rest leave me a bit nonplussed and I don’t think I ever want to hear Tubelord again. Given the football themed sleeve this compilation is certainly a game of two halves. You can get it for nowt from here. Facebook Continue reading Compilation Week – The Spirit of ’82... Alcopop! Records Summer Sampler 2018

Agent Blå – Another Reason To Cut Off An Ear

Swedish band Agent Blå’s penchant for producing indiepop which could easily fill a stadium given their sound shows no sign of abating on latest single Another Reason To Cut Off An Ear. Vocalist Emelie Alatalo’s voice is as epic as the accompanying soaring guitars giving the song a haunting and dramatic feel. It’s also the lead track from their new Vinyl EP Medium Rare which was released this past Friday. Get the single (with an exclusive b-side) and/or the EP from the band or the label, Luxury Records or; Kanine Records in the States, Through Love (Germany) or 2670 Records … Continue reading Agent Blå – Another Reason To Cut Off An Ear
