The Belafontes – Roll On

The Belafontes have compiled the four tracks they have released on bandcamp over the past year and released them on vinyl and cassette formats alongside the usual digital ones. But like me you should have these four tracks already no? You can read what I thought about Where the City Meets the Sea & Gemini. I am not sure why I have not mentioned the other two. Suffice to say they are both also fine examples of punk/surf pop. Whenever I play The Belafontes I get a feel good boost. Why don’t you get a sugar rush too? Pre-order from … Continue reading The Belafontes – Roll On

Records I Like 2018 – The Capsule!

If the 55 tracks in the Best of 2018 mixes/playlists were not enough I have compiled a track each from most of the releases featured on Records I Like in 2018 in a handy Spotify playlist. If you use Deezer don’t worry as here is a link to an almost identical playlist on that service. Have a great new year and I will “see” you all in 2019! Haters – Lovesick

Brighton based DIY/punk-pop band Haters come out of retirement with an emotionally charged song about mental health, a subject which is close to my heart for a number of reasons. It’s not too hard to feel empathy with the song’s lyrics given how deeply and sincerely they are sung. It’s pretty moving stuff and you can get it from here. Facebook The song has also been released to raise funds for the Solidarity Not Silence campaign which has support from bands such as The Tuts. The campaign are a group of women who are fighting a claim of defamation made … Continue reading Haters – Lovesick

Give, Give, Give Me More, More, More…..

I think this final post of the week finally sees me catching up with my bandcamp bookmarks, well the stuff I liked, for now. Lightfoils – Summer Nights (radio edit) An absolute belter of a shoegazing track. Dreamy and ethereal. Just the way I like ’em. I cannot really say any more so press play now! Edit: A longer 8 minute version can be found on the just released Chambers EP. Facebook Death of Heather – I Can Tell Bangkok’s Death of Heather build upon the promise of their July demos delivering a lovely polished dreampop effort that will be … Continue reading Give, Give, Give Me More, More, More…..

Singles Going Steady……

Another round up of singles and EP’s for your listening pleasure…… Blushing – The Truth / Sunshine The first single to be taken from dreampoppers Blushing’s debut album due for release early next year. The flip side Sunshine is a shimmering delight in the way Lush sounded when they first emerged many moons ago. Get your vinyl copy of the single from here. Facebook The Hannah Barberas – No Mystery EP Another fine EP from the fans of Jessica Fletcher. It’s more consistent than the debut EP and I really like the Throwing Muses like Spellbound. The EP is currently … Continue reading Singles Going Steady……

Candy – Apartment In The City

Melbourne’s Candy is one Calum Newton (ex Lunatics on Pogosticks and Amyl and the Sniffers). Newton’s music first caught my ear with the lovely Azure and his forthcoming album Under The Weather is about his struggles during a period of homelessness last year. There have been four “singles” taken from the album so far and Apartment In The City is my pick of the bunch. Despite it’s sombre tone the music, a mix between bedroom and dream pop, gives the song a tranquil feel with Newton’s vocals and lyrics being clearly noticeable throughout. The aforementioned album is out on November … Continue reading Candy – Apartment In The City
