Melenas – Ya No Me Importa/Si Tú Me Quieres

I am not sure where Pamplona’s Melenas have been hiding for the last 18 months but it’s good to hear them back again on this double a-side single. It features two lovely slices of 1960s inspired garage pop complete with fuzzy guitars and girl band vocals. It’s available on 7″ vinyl and digital formats direct from the band. Holy Now – All The Time

A new song from Swedish band Holy Now and it’s a very good one at that.  It’s a slow song that just demonstrates how great the voice of singer/guitarist Julia Olander actually is. The words are beautifully sung as her vocals dominate the song, soaring above the instruments which get through during the right moments.  All The Time is out now on Lazy Octopus Records. Tight Knit – Too Hot

Originally released digitally in 2017 Too Hot, and flip side Want You, by Melbourne’s Tight Knit now get the vinyl treatment they deserve courtesy of Glasgow’s Not Unloved Records. Too Hot is a garage/indiepop hybrid with more than a few nods in the direction of riot grrrl whilst I Want You has a catchy chorus that you could die for. Order the 7″ here. The original digital versions are still available on a pay what you want basis from the band. Facebook Continue reading Tight Knit – Too Hot

The Wendy Darlings – Always Late

Always Late is taken from the forthcoming album The Wendy Darlings Against Evil that will be released on Oddbox Records in May of this year. It is a short, shouty garage number that has me questioning myself asking have The Wendy Darlings always been this loud? I will reserve judgement for when the album is released but in the meantime crank up that volume and press play. Facebook Continue reading The Wendy Darlings – Always Late

конец солнечных дней – «мне никогда не было весело с тобой»

Or to give the translated title which is I Have Never Had Fun With You By the End of Sunny Days which is an intriguing mix of songs from this Omsk based band. The songs are full of jangling sounds with sombre, deadpan delivered vocals. Whilst I have no idea what they are singing about the translated song titles suggest it could well be a mix of doom and gloom. And then some more. Still, it’s an interesting mix of indiepop/post-punk and regardless of the language my ears like this! Continue reading конец солнечных дней – «мне никогда не было весело с тобой»

Terry Vs. Tori – Braille

Terry Vs. Tori return with a song that could have easily graced the Labrador Records catalogue circa 2008. Opening with what sounds like a cassette tape being inserted the song soon mixes a 70’s vibe and indiepop. It’s not too hard to think of bands associated with the aforementioned label and Braille sounds like the Acid House Kings making music under a searing Spanish sun. Facebook Continue reading Terry Vs. Star Tropics – The Other Side of Midnight

The Other Side of Midnight is the first we have heard from Star Tropics since their 2017 album Lost Worlds. And it’s well worth the wait as they return with a charming indiepop song despite the maudlin lyrics. The band take their cues from the jangling (shambling?) C86 bands and the subsequent Sarah Records roster before applying their own delicious take across the indiepop board. Most marvellous!
