Jeanines – Been In The Dark

New York’s Jeanines will be releasing a new 7″ EP on London based label Where It’s At Is Where You Are or WIAIWYA for short. Titled Things Change it features four tracks including the taster track Been In The Dark. It follows the pattern of last years self titled debut album and fuses post-punk (Dolly Mixture, Television Personalities) with indiepop from both sides of the pond (Shop Assistants, Black Tambourine, Talulah Gosh, Aislers Set etc). Things Change will be released on March 6th 2020 and will be available on 7″ vinyl and digital formats. Pre-order from here. The band also … Continue reading Jeanines – Been In The Dark

Seablite – Skeleton Couch

Seablite are releasing a new EP next month titled High-Rise Mannequins. It’s a joint release on American label Emotional Response and the Spanish label Meritorio Records. Skeleton Couch has been released as a taster and is a fine mix of 1960s girl band and 1980’s c86/fuzzy indie pop. Pop Crimes – Debuts

Originally released last October Debuts gets a re-release on cassette (and digital of course) on Howlin’ Banana Records. The band, who are a supergroup of sorts as they comprise members of En Attendant Ana, Blondi’s Salvation and Young Like Old Men take inspiration from the likes of The Pastels, Sarah Records and Pavement. Don’t let that guide you mind as this release mixes up 1960s garage, a bit of grunge and most certainly some noise. Musically each of these songs, which are sometimes harsh or raw, always veer on the side of melody and contain more than enough catchy guitar … Continue reading Pop Crimes – Debuts

The Reds, Pinks & Purples – I’m Sorry About Your Life

The Reds, Pinks & Purples have announced some plans for 2020. They will be releasing a 7″ EP on Swedish label I Dischi Del Barone Records. A second album, provisionally titled Uncommon Weather, will be released via Slumberland Records later this year. They have also announced full band appearances at the Madrid Popfest on 13th March and play San Francisco along side Australian band Quivers and The Umbrellas on April 11th. The Lousy Pop Group – Days

I last heard of Indonesian band The Lousy Pop Group on Stawberry Punks Vol.2 back in November 2018 although they released a couple of tracks last year. They have recently announced via the Shiny Happy Records bandcamp page that they will be releasing a 7″ single entitled Time Flies When You’re Having Fun later this year and Days is the first track to be lifted from said single. It’s a gentle, wistful track that harks back to 1980s indiepop/twee and which fades away far too soon. Lovely and the artwork is too. Continue reading The Lousy Pop Group – Days

Closer Preys – Betrayed EP

The Betrayed EP is the debut release from 19 year old Seoul based (and self confessed music nerd) Minjun Kang aka Closer Preys. Musically this DIY bedroom project moves between dream, indie and twee pop. There are some interesting ideas and noises here none more so on Distant Friends with it’s hushed vocals and chiming guitar sound. The wonderfully named I Tried To Swim Across The Ocean picks up the pace adding some noise and layers to the aforementioned guitars whilst Dark Room has that echoing, DIY bedroom pop sound. Promising! Continue reading Closer Preys – Betrayed EP

Five Card Shuffle

A round up of sorts! Jetstream Pony have recently released a new track in the shape of Yellow Pills. Not sure the of the history of this one aside that it was recorded last Autumn but it’s a fine fuzzy pop song none the less. Crank it up. London label Damnably are releasing a compilation of Grrrl Gang’s work to date on vinyl and the solid lilac edition looks very nice indeed. Called Here To Stay it features nine tracks including two versions of the everlasting fave Dream Grrrl. Pre-order it from here. The Memory Fades posted a new demo … Continue reading Five Card Shuffle

Big Baby – String Of Pearls

Big Baby follow up 2017’s Sour Patch EP with a new EP entitled Fizzy Cola which is due for release later this week. Fuzzy Cola may have been a more appropriate name because taster track String Of Pearls is full of edgy, noisy guitar whilst the voice of Ali Mislowsky draws the listener in even further. Fizzy Cola will be released on cassette via French label Hidden Bay Records and the EP is also available digitally from the band. A CD release on Jigsaw Records is also in the offering. Nah… – Perfect Game

Nah… the joint Dutch/German indiepop band have released a new single and boy, do they start the new year in some style. Taking their cues from the Glasgow School Perfect Game, a song about love and darts, features jangling guitars in the style of postcard records whilst the vocals err on the side of Edwyn Collins. It features lovely cover art too featuring 1970’s icon Sally Thomsett. 180! Facebook Continue reading Nah… – Perfect Game
