Klackers – Klackers

Well this is an enjoyable romp by Canadian band Klackers on their self titled debut. There are nine songs here which also includes covers of tracks by The Adicts and Bratmobile. Musically it’s garage rock with punk influences – think early Detroit Cobras with original material – whilst the vocals are a mix of shouty garage and tinged with the blues. The whole EP (album?) is loud, brassy, sarky, angry or fun but most important of all it’s a blast. Highlights are Womb Buddy (especially the young child singing along at the end), Ride or Die and closer No Means … Continue reading Klackers – Klackers

Records I Like 2018 – The Capsule!

If the 55 tracks in the Best of 2018 mixes/playlists were not enough I have compiled a track each from most of the releases featured on Records I Like in 2018 in a handy Spotify playlist. If you use Deezer don’t worry as here is a link to an almost identical playlist on that service. Have a great new year and I will “see” you all in 2019! Bearcats & Horrible/Adorable – Split

Bearcats deliver a catchy, sometimes sleazy (and with that title it could not be anything else) garage/riot grrrl crossover on Gutter Pussy which is worth every part of it’s 109 seconds. New to these ears are Horrible Adorable who give us a blend of rock n’ roll, surf pop and garage on Surf, Rock, Beach, Party, UFO which reminds me of the Fizzbombs around the time of their second single. Despite which side you prefer both tracks here are essential listening. Out now via Yr First Crush. Bearcats (Facebook) Horrible Adorable (Facebook) Continue reading Bearcats & Horrible/Adorable – Split

Ending 2017 #3

And the round up continues…. Pip Blom – Babies Are A Lie/School Two slices of apprehensive and anxious indiepop from Dutch based Pip Blom. Both these tracks are catchy with rough sounding fuzzy guitars and heavy bass riffs. Available on 7″ and digital formats from here. Facebook Color TV – Paroxeteens 7″ Excellent punk rock with a poppier edge than usual from Minnesota’s Colour TV. Short, sweet and loud! Available from here. Facebook Patsy’s Rats – Is It Alright?/Givin’ Up Is It Alright is pop punk (or is it powerpop?) at it’s finest. Flip side Givin’ Up errs on the … Continue reading Ending 2017 #3

Boys/Magic Potion – Split 7″

Wow. A rather splendid 7″ single via the PNKSLM Recordings label featuring two excellent bands from Sweden. Rabbits by Boys is a dreamy, indiepop number that draws it influences from 1960’s girl bands to 1980’s UK indie and utilises them to great effect not to dissimilar to what The School were doing a while back. . Facebook Lose Yr Skull by Magic Potion on the AA side may upset the indiepop purists out there but their garage inspired take on the genre gets the thumbs up from me especially when it comes to the vocals that give this track so … Continue reading Boys/Magic Potion – Split 7″

Sometimes – A Records I Like Playlist (July 2017 #3)

A playlist covering the latest in indiepop, shoegaze, dreampop, riot grrl, garage and more. Plenty to listen out for here. The latest demo by Jetstream Pony is sublime and I purchased everything by Hiki based on hearing Closer for the first time. Honeyrude are new to me as well and their track The Color Blue has been a regular play this month alongside Alvvays and The Autumn Sighs. Enjoy! Not The One – A Records I Like Playlist (June 2017 #2)

I think I may have solved the problem of embedded playlists (wordpress.com does not support iframe) but with two steps instead of one. A tip on the wordpress.com support boards got me thinking about having a clickable image which brings up a pop-up player. So there you have it and this is a good post as any to try it out so without further ado here is a mix featuring of tracks previously mentioned or soon to be mentioned on this site. It covers a mix of indiepop, post-punk, shoegaze, garage and jangle pop. Enjoy! Alternatively head over to our … Continue reading Not The One – A Records I Like Playlist (June 2017 #2)
