Compilation Week – TBTCI Dives Into Asian Sounds

The Blog That Celebrates Itself Records (TBTCI) specialises in producing compilation tribute album whether to an artist, label or even part of the world. This latest compilation is a roundup of the Asian Scene and includes both covers as well as new or recent original recordings. Musically the album contains indiepop, shoegaze and dreampop. Standout tracks come from Indonesian noise pop outfit See The Eye, Chinese Shoegazers Dear Eloise and Jaapn’s Fluffytails with a gorgeous cover of Lemon’s Chair’s SWallowtail. However Indonesian post-punk outfit Pullo win it for me Round The Bed complete with Ian Curtis style vocals. It’s a … Continue reading Compilation Week – TBTCI Dives Into Asian Sounds

Compilation Week – Chiaroscuro. Italogaze 2018

Italian labels Seashell Records and Vipchoyo Sound Factory have come together to produce this compilation which gathers 13 new tracks from the Italian underground shoegazing scene. Whilst bands such as Stella Diana, Mary’s Restless Dream and RevRevRev were previously known to me the majority aren’t and this is a good starting point for the scene which has been affectionately labelled as Italogaze. And of the bands who I haven’t heard previously? I really enjoyed the post-punk meets shoegaze vibes of Electric Floor with I Made It Up whilst Klam, who have been around since 2012, delight with the quirky Begging … Continue reading Compilation Week – Chiaroscuro. The Angel Makers – Kill The World

Kill The World by Essex based dreampoppers The Angel Makers is taken from a forthcoming but yet unnamed EP. It’s the follow up to the Blue EP that was released back in March which I can wholeheartedly recommend. Kill The World is a melodic but saddening track thanks to the mournful lyrics and sometimes gloomy vocals. Mind you the title should be a clue eh? Get it for nowt from here. And listen to the Blue EP too. Facebook Continue reading The Angel Makers – Kill The World

Sunchoke – Sunchoke EP

Investigating Sunchoke a bit further throws up that they are comprised of members who have featured in a number of other bands such as Heavy Pockets, Gash, Crystal Methodist and Idling. This self titled EP is the band’s debut and their sound is a mix of dreampop and indiepop whilst the vocals of Jess Allard are utilised to great effect. The delectable Graceful Creature is my pick of the five tracks here but there isn’t a filler in sight. Download it for nowt from here. Facebook Continue reading Sunchoke – Sunchoke EP

Soft Science – Sooner/Paris

Soft Science follow up their recent Undone single with another fine effort in the shape of Sooner. It’s very Lush (pun intended) as it sounds pretty similar to that band’s output circa 1990-1991. If you haven’t heard of Lush before then in a nutshell Sooner is dreamy, swirling shoegaze with lovely ethereal vocals. It’s backed with the bands remastered cover of Northern Picture Library’s Paris track which they originally recorded for the excellent TBTCI Sarah Records covers project Popkiss last year. They slow it down and cover it in more 4AD inspired sounds complete with shimmering guitars and heavenly vocals. … Continue reading Soft Science – Sooner/Paris

Lost and Found – A Records I Like Playlist (April 2018 #1)

Unfortunately the past ten days have seen me laid low by a viral infection hence the lack of posts. I have updated the playlist I had ready to go two weeks ago so it’s a bit of a bumper crop. Thankfully these tracks are more pleasant in their infectiousness than what I have been suffering with. Enjoy! Click on the image to start the playlist. More playlists can be found here and the Playmoss page is here. Continue reading Lost and Found – A Records I Like Playlist (April 2018 #1)
