Star Horse – Albatross

Albatross is the first we have heard from Sweden’s dreampop act Star Horse since the excellent Slower Now single released back in 2015. It’s worth the wait as Albatross soars across the skies as the song shines, having an almost spiritual feel over the course of it’s eight and a half minutes “flight”. Albatross is taken from the forthcoming album You Said Forever due for release in February next year. Facebook Continue reading Star Horse – Albatross

Earache – Voices/Parasite

Earache hail from down under and is the project of Gemma Nourse (No Stars, Shopgirl) and David Fenderson (Territory, Sob Story, Cure). This, their debut release, features two slices of dreamy indiepop with more than a hint of shoegazing about it’s person and lovely boy/girl vocals to the boot too. The debut album Last follows soon. Meanwhile head over to Lacklustre Records to get this excellent double header on cassette or digital formats. It’s also available digitally from Black Wire Records. Candy – Apartment In The City

Melbourne’s Candy is one Calum Newton (ex Lunatics on Pogosticks and Amyl and the Sniffers). Newton’s music first caught my ear with the lovely Azure and his forthcoming album Under The Weather is about his struggles during a period of homelessness last year. There have been four “singles” taken from the album so far and Apartment In The City is my pick of the bunch. Despite it’s sombre tone the music, a mix between bedroom and dream pop, gives the song a tranquil feel with Newton’s vocals and lyrics being clearly noticeable throughout. The aforementioned album is out on November … Continue reading Candy – Apartment In The City

Pocari Sweet – Cream

Maybe I should had declared it chillout this week the way the posts are going these past few days! Today we have another wistful, swirling and a somewhat impressionable track from Chinese band Pocari Sweet. Cream is taken from the Gentle Moon EP that came out last month and features gentle female vocals weaving their way through the delicate layers of soft guitars. The EP’s other tracks consist of traditional shoegaze fare which is done with style and panache none more so than 海风吹 (Sea Breeze) which would have been the standout track for me if it wasn’t for the … Continue reading Pocari Sweet – Cream

Herlights – Lost in the Autumn

More atmospheric chill-out music derived from shoegaze genre. The track errs on the electronic side of things and there is more than a touch of the old “skool” Balearic sound when it comes to the guitar that weaves in and out of the hushed and barely audible vocals. It’s an effect that gives the impression that Lost in the Autumn is, or should be, part of a film score. All “Fall” down…… Facebook Continue reading Herlights – Lost in the Autumn

The Churchhill Garden – Holding on (Feat. Demi Haynes)

This could well be Swiss outfit The Churchhill Garden’s finest moment to date. Escape to a world where My Bloody Valentine are fronted by Harriet Wheeler and you are halfway there. The song itself is heavenly, atmospheric and beautiful none more so than the voice of Seashine’s Demi Haynes. The soundtrack to my (and your) dreams…. Echo Ladies – Overrated (Robin Guthrie Version)

Overrated was one of the many highlights from Echo Ladies recent long player Pink Noise. It now gets a rework by Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins) tht removes the harshness of the original placing a sometimes delicate emphasis on the vocals and turning up the dream pop dial to maximum. Lovely stuff. The sound of Sweden. Via East Stirlingshire. Pre-order from here. And here is the original Facebook Continue reading Echo Ladies – Overrated (Robin Guthrie Version)

Fawns of Love – Someday

Someday is the first single to be lifted from the new Fawns of Love album Permanent that will be released next year on Test Pattern Records. Somewhat remarkably Someday fuses New Order and the Cocteau Twins to great effect and the husband and wife duo of Jenny & Joseph Andreotti create an excellent tune that is ideal for the indie dance floor. I reckon it’s ripe for a remix too and Test Pattern Records have previous form in that department so lets hope something is in the offering! Homepage Continue reading Fawns of Love – Someday
