Compilation Week – Russian Tour 2

This compilation, compiled by Belka Records who are based in Moscow and Paris, features Russian speaking bands from Russia and The Ukraine. Skip pass the dreadful first track and persevere. Only Verbludes were known to me before but after listening to this a few more will be too especially the glorious post-punk sounds of Gruppa Hmuriy and Fleece Flower as well as the indiepop of Park 17. As with all compilations what one person likes another will not so delve in and I am sure there will be something that grabs your attention before long. Available on cassette or digital … Continue reading Compilation Week – Russian Tour 2

Tragic Presentations – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 6

I was hoping for a miserable wet Sunday which would have been my cue for presenting this, the sixth installment of gloomy post-punk. Typically London is bathed in glorious Autumn sunshine today but strangely enough this latest playlist is the perfect accompaniment to gazing out of the window and watching leaves fall off the trees whilst the music pumps through your headphones. Enjoy! Continue reading Tragic Presentations – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 6

You Can See – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 5

Another mix of post-punk for your listening pleasure. Aside from the obvious Joy Division clones there seems to be quite a bit of innovation in post-punk genres especially under Coldwave of late so much so I could probably start a new blog around it. Probably! Once again there is more than enough to keep you occupied from the return of Cold Cave and music from new post punk bands hailing from from Italy, France, Mexico and many more places around the globe. So get stuck in and enjoy! Continue reading You Can See – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 5

A Voice That Whispers In My Head – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 4

As promised yesterday here is the second mix for this weekend. This time the mix concentrates on coldwave, post-punk and minimal wave to cover a few genres! As I get older I find myself progressing back to listening to the music in my youth and this mix certainly reminds me of those times. There is some wonderful stuff here from Europe and the States – enjoy! Continue reading A Voice That Whispers In My Head – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 4

Distant Light – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 3

Another does of post-punk, coldwave, minimal synth and dark wave for your listening pleasure. Some excellent tracks here especially the releases from French label Unknown Pleasures which I will have to feature more of at some point! It will be a bit quiet around here over the next few weeks as holidays beckon so head to the Playmoss or Records I Like Playlists site for more tuneage until I return. Continue reading Distant Light – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 3

Factice Factory – Extinguisher

French/Swiss post-punk/coldwave act Factice Factory release their new album Lines & Parallels in September. Extinguisher is the first single taken from the album and the track pays homage the band’s influences such as the likes of D.A.F and early Nitzer Ebb. Impressive stuff. The album will be a joint release on WaveTension records and Wool-E-Disc records. Extinguisher can be picked up in digital formats from bandcamp. Something For The Weekend? Three Compilations.

This week’s pack of three features three compilations that should keep you busy for this weekend and the next few come to think of it! Ghost Babes Compilation Vol.3 London based cassette label Ghost Babe Records are now onto their third compilation featuring just American bands whether they play garage, slacker rock or punk. Not heard of most of these except for the excellent Wedding Camp but already I am going to dig into the back catalogues of Lost Boy? (try searching that name on Bandcamp!) and Thick. It seems that when the cassettes are sold out the digital version … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Three Compilations.

Something For The Weekend? Three Influenced By Joy Division……

This week’s pack of three encompasses three artists who have given themselves a tag as Joy Division on Bandcamp. Mementut – Into the shadow of God Very Gothic sounding especially the trademark vocal style and any club that wants to recreate the goth scene of 1980’s northern England could well give it a spin. It gets a bit samey for these ears although on Valyrian and Asylum there are hints at better things to come. Triebgesteuert Antriebslos – Music Is For Losers The post-punk project of a lo-fi hip-hop artist. There are some interesting ideas here and some of the … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Fopmusic – You’re So

You’re So is an upbeat retro synthpop track complete with deadpan post-punk vocals that are almost robotic as the lyrics reel off Lars-Göran Forsberg’s tongue. However it’s the End Of Party RMX by Synths Versus Me that really grabs me sounding like an updated version of Blackbelt Andersen’s classic track Tyrkisk Pepper. Just when you think it’s going to be vocal free they fade in for the last couple of minutes to great effect. Make no mistake, this is Coldwave for the dancefloor. I like….. Out now digitally via Oráculo Records Soundcloud Bandcamp Continue reading Fopmusic – You’re So
