Holiday Tuneage!

It’s going to be a bit silent around here for the next couple of weeks whilst I am away but that doesn’t mean that there will be nothing left to listen too judging by this round up post which features some music I have meaning to mention separately but time etc. First up is The Death of Pop with their new single Bubble Bath that features four excellent indie pop tracks. Not much progression from their previous work but if it ain’t broke………………. The excellent The Choo Choo Trains, who describe themselves as playing “girl-guide Shoegaze”, have a new cassette … Continue reading Holiday Tuneage!

Tape Runs Out – Friends / Flowers

Experimental meets shoegaze meets pop. Or something like that. Friends finishes far too quickly for my liking whilst Flowers takes a few listens as it slowly grows on you. An interesting first release from this Cambridge based band. It’s out as a digital single via Ear To Ear Records. Get it from here. An album (with a new line up) follows later this year. Various Artists – American Sole

I have been intrigued by Plastic Fish Records since coming across Colour of Spring’s debut release. It’s a Leeds based label and I have come across a compilation they released back in October 2014 which highlights bands from home, across the pond and Europe. It’s worth a listen and the Beach Youth track is bloody amazing! Strangely it is not available on Bandcamp (please!) and is only available for purchase via i-tunes at time of writing. You can stream it at Spotify as well. Facebook Soundcloud Continue reading Various Artists – American Sole

Records I Like Tracks Of The Year 2014 – 5 to 1

Tracks 10 to 6 can be found here. The countdown continues…….. 5. The Radio Dept. – Death to Fascism The Radio Dept. only seem to release songs these days when there is a general election in their native Sweden. Death To Fascism is their response to the rise of the extreme right in Sweden and features chants of Smrt fašizmu, sloboda narodu over what sounds like a remix of The Jesus and Mary Chain’s Reverence. You can download the song for free from Soundcloud. 4. The Wendy Darlings – Bobby Darin Taken from the album The Insufferable Fatigues of Idleness … Continue reading Records I Like Tracks Of The Year 2014 – 5 to 1

Records I Like Tracks Of The Year 2014 – 10 to 6

Phew. It was a hard choice picking just 10 songs to represent the Records I Like Top 10 Tracks for 2014 and I think I should really thinking about a move to Spain at some point given the amount of Spanish indiepop I have listened to in 2014. The just missing out pile included tracks by Lost Tapes, Earth Girls, Shackleton, Teen Runnings, Factory Floor, The Debutantes, Joanna Gruesome, My Light Shines For You, Zipper, Lightfoils, PinkshinyUltrablast, Peru, Crescendo, Hardfloor, The Hobbes Fanclub and The Popguns off the top of my head – maybe I should have done a top … Continue reading Records I Like Tracks Of The Year 2014 – 10 to 6

Unlikely Friends – (I’ve Got a) Soft Reputation

Unlikely Friends (or is it simply UF?) consist of Charles Bert (Math & Physics Club) , Dee Krain (BOAT) and Chris Mac from, as the bandcamp page states, too many projects to list. (I’ve Got a) Soft Reputation is the first single taken from the band’s forthcoming debut album Solid Gold Cowboys which is due for release in January next year. Thanks mainly to the vocals this reminds of Sugar especially around the Copper Blue album. And that means a big like in anyone’s book methinks. The New Romantics – Drifting/Something

The New Romantics were originally called Shy Boys and they released an excellent single under that moniker in the form of Julia last year (which is still available under the new name). Both sides of this new release are delving deep into dream pop territory especially on Something which simply soars and uses girl/boy vocals to great effect. I am gonna press play again……. Out now on Dracula Horse. Get it from here. Continue reading The New Romantics – Drifting/Something
