I think I may have solved the problem of embedded playlists (wordpress.com does not support iframe) but with two steps instead of one. A tip on the wordpress.com support boards got me thinking about having a clickable image which brings up a pop-up player. Sheer – Psychic Quarry EP

I have been culling my bandcamp links left, right and centre these past few days and came across this one I bookmarked a couple of months ago. The reason for this is clear as the opening track on this EP Room is one of the catchier rock tracks I have heard for a while thanks to the vocals and guitars packed full of reverb. Is Bliss – Into A Dream

I have always liked droning music and as I get older as find myself being drawn to it even more. Into A Dream by Is Bliss is a fine example mixing psychedelia with hypnotic and dreamy melodies that draws its inspiration from the likes as 80’s bands such as Loop and Spacemen Three, krautock and shoegaze. My only complaint is that it could have been a bit longer so we could hear that sitar for even more. Kidsmoke – And Mine Alone

I cannot say I have really been grabbed by Kidsmoke. Maybe I expect more from a band who write that “the band play indie-pop inspired by The Smiths, Joy Division”. I found tracks like previous single Waves to be a bit turgid (for the want of a better word) but I persist because their recent cover art is so eye catching. Now they have made a track that has caught my ears too in the shape of And Mine Alone. Waxahatchee – Silver

Silver has got a few people on t’net excited from what I have read in recent weeks. I have avoided it until now but playing it back it’s not hard to see why some folks reckon it’s one of the best tracks of the year so far. The guitars create a stormy effect giving sanctuary to the philosophic lyrics and the sometimes drawling, but soothing, vocal style. It’s good but track of the year? Remind me of that in December! Rob Coffinshaker has been making goth inspired music since the 1990’s but this is his debut release under the Rob Coffinshaker’s Underground Fire name. Both sides cover the territory he has visited before. Underground Fire is a catchy rockier track whilst flip side Black Hole rides deep into gothic western mode. Ye hah! Slugger – Stay Loose

Possibly the first ever release I have bought from an artist who hails from Dorking but this EP isn’t a bad place to start. There are four tracks covering a mix of post-punk, lo-fi and DIY noise pop complete with scowling vocals that sometimes sound like they are sprawled in their delivery. Trails is my pick of the bunch here but to be fair there is not a filler track across the whole EP. Worth a listen as it February’s Barb EP. Get it from Bandcamp.
