Something For The Weekend? Three Influenced By Joy Division……

This week’s pack of three encompasses three artists who have given themselves a tag as Joy Division on Bandcamp. Mementut – Into the shadow of God Very Gothic sounding especially the trademark vocal style and any club that wants to recreate the goth scene of 1980’s northern England could well give it a spin. It gets a bit samey for these ears although on Valyrian and Asylum there are hints at better things to come. Triebgesteuert Antriebslos – Music Is For Losers The post-punk project of a lo-fi hip-hop artist. There are some interesting ideas here and some of the … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? The Distractions – A Few Miles More

The Distractions, who recorded one of the finest singles ever to grace the Factory Records discography, release their third and final album later this month. The gentle but emotional A Few Miles More is the album’s lead track and promises great things from the rest of the album. It’s being released on Occultation Records. Catching Up. Again!

It’s been a busy time at work and as you can tell by the lack of posts I have not had much chance to listen to much new stuff. Preparing for the Culture Bunker’s 5th Anniversary night hasn’t helped either but that’s one chore I am happy to have. Enough of me moaning. Here are some of the tracks I have been listening too. No words from me either! Rocketship/Pia Fraus – Outer Otherness/Cloudy Eyes Split 7″ single which you can get from here. And just as I write this post Rocketship, who offered parts of their track for remixing, … Continue reading Catching Up. Again!

Bruising/Personal Best – Split 7″

Two of my favourite discoveries of recent years have joined forces for a forthcoming split 7″ single for the Too Pure singles club. Personal Best give us mishapen guitars and lyrics that bite whilst Bruising take a more romantic approach with a sweeter, candy coated effort. Neither side of the split disappoint and this excellent 7″ is definately one for your valentine! You will need to subscribe to the Too Pure Singles club to get it although it may be available separately at some point in the future. The Personal Best track can be picked up digitally via their Bandcamp … Continue reading Bruising/Personal Best – Split 7″

Something For The Weekend? Three I Meant To Write About….

Three releases that are on my “must write about that” list… Port Sulphur – The Lane Featuring Davy Henderson and Vic Godard. No words can express how great this so I guess that’s why I have avoided writing in detail about it. Just listen! Cayetana – Camp Cope Two tracks from the rapidly improving to these ears Cayetana. Mesa is catchy alt-rock whilst Trails is slower paced which shows off the band’s excellent songwriting. Homepage Facebook Girlfrendo – Demo There is no rush in writing about this one as the songs are over twenty years old. It has been released … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Secret Cameras – It Doesn’t Matter

It Doesn’t Matter by Secret Cameras is the second single to be taken from a full EP that is due for release in March. To these ears, the mix of synthpop and indie gives It Doesn’t Matter a retro vibe whether it’s from 1980’s or via revivalists in the noughties. Itamar Starets vocals are pretty impressive and whilst the song overall has an art-rock feel it’s not trying to be too clever about it either unlike others who have trod the path before. It Doesn’t Matter is out now digitally from all the usual places including Bandcamp. The band will be launching the … Continue reading Secret Cameras – It Doesn’t Matter

Something For The Weekend? Forthcoming Releases

This week’s pack of three focuses on three forthcoming releases to keep an ear out for. Peaness – Seafoam Islands The flip side of the new single due for release at the end of this month on Oddbox Records. I did not hear much from Peaness in 2016 but they are off to a cracking start in 2017. Is it garage? Is it rock? Is it indie? Who cares because it is perfect pop to these ears. The limited 7″ single has now sold out of it’s pre-orders but keep an eye on their Bandcamp page in case any more … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Forthcoming Releases

Something For The Weekend? Three From Russia

Here are three bands from Russia that have caught my ear recently. Июльские Дни – Колокол Google translates the band and song name as Bell by the July Days and it’s an impressive EP that romps through guitar orientated post-punk territory with unabashed abandon. The highlight for me is the powerful sounding Крутится-вертится (Spinning, Spinning). Буерак – Влюбленный Альфонс Translated as Love Alphonse by Buerak I like this as it gives post-punk a fresh lick of paint. Very catchy and with a punchy vocal style. I am already checking out their previous work. промзона 96 – гордость The band actually … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Three From Russia
