This week’s pack of three features recent album releases from Matinee Recordings.
All three albums can be purchased from the Matinee Recordings Shop.
Bubblegum Lemonade – Lawrence of Suburbia
The sixth album from the Scottish band features their trademark blend of their 1960’s influenced psych tinged pop with 1980’s indie pop. It’s a familiar, comforting sound which will be around as long as Laz, along with long term collaborator Sandra (Strawberry Whiplash), is.
Red Sleeping Beauty – Diary
Red Sleeping Beauty have been around for 35 years now and they made the transition from guitar based indiepop to producing synth pop nuggets without anyone actually noticing. Who could tire of such pop deliciousness especially when it features collaborations with the likes of Mary Wyer (Even As We Speak), Julia Lannerheim (Acid House Kings) and Jane Wildson (Papa Topo)? Not me for one.
Azure Blue – The Night of the Stars
I must admit I was never grabbed by Azure Blue’s earlier work back in the day. That changed when hearing 2019’s Images of You album and my ears haven’t, er, looked back since. Given that The Night of the Stars features last year’s brilliant Rise single I don’t expect that to change and tracks like Three Times The Drama cement that fact.
