A Tuesday Threesome

I have to say that I am constantly amazed by those artists who make their work available for free or on a pay what you want basis on Bandcamp. Whilst, it’s a useful promotional tool (Or is it? It’s hard to tell) I always want to contribute something. Maybe after listening to the artists below, you may want to do the same!

Big Hugs – Radio Edits

Big Hugs hail from Maryland and write that their songs are “very loud, very poppy, trying to make sad shit sound happy!”. That’s the review in a nutshell, really!

There are six short songs here (the clue was in the title I guess) about climate destruction, lovers, doomsday preppers etc. chock full of fuzzy guitar riffs yet also full of tasty pop harmonies and melodies.

Climate Pop and M Baby (She’s So Lonely) are the pick of the bunch. Get it from here.

Sunil Sawani – Three Songs

Sunil Sawani has been recording for a number of years, but this is his first release for a while now. On this set of three songs (no, it’s not an EP!) he once again teams up with Laura Witkowski his ex-partner in A Lady Never Tells.

The three songs here are DIY alt-rock that grab your attention due to their vibrancy and Sawani’s vocal style. The claps and backing vocals on Collage It! makes the listener stand up to attention, whilst the addition of Jonathan Weier on bass enshrines the stand-out track I Can’t Help U!. The words are delivered in a catchy manner, ensuring nodding of the head and the tapping of one’s foot soon follows!

Grab this one from here.

Fine. – Down After Hours

I mentioned in the post intro if giving away your music for free was a valid promotional tool. Well, it certainly hasn’t harmed the reputation or productivity of the Boston (that’s the original one) based bedroom pop band, Fine at all.

New track Down After Hours, recorded on 8 track, is a fast paced track and catchy track that encapsulates everything that is good about the band and their lo-fi indiepop. Alice Kat’s vocals are certainly worthy of your attention.

Both Kat and her band partner Kid Chameleon also release music that is free or available on a pay what you want basis. If you have not done so before check them out as well as Fine’s back catalogue too.
