As I approach starting another year, there is always one type of music I will enjoy to the end of my days, that being noisy and fuzzy indiepop. Thirty eight years after I was entranced by the shambling sounds of the likes of The Shop Assistants and their ilk, it’s a sound that still excites. And bands like Star 99 keep that buzz going.
The San Jose quartet releases their debut album Bitch Unlimited early next month and on my birthday too of all days! Preview, and opening track, Girl jumps right out at you with its power pop inspired guitars backed with twee/indiepop vocals, resplendently full of punk-ish attitude. The band also previewed another track from the album in the shape of South Second. Listen to it here.
