Back in January I mentioned that Fairground, Deary’s debut single, reminded me of big beat and trip hop. Well, they have only gone and solidified that opinion by getting Saint Etienne, and their collaborator Augustin Bousfield, in to remix the track. The ethereal vocals are highlighted and then effectively brought to the fore, built up by heavy breakbeats and loops. It’s not a remix for dancing, and that was never the point of big beat. But for late night relaxation or listening through headphones, it’s just perfect.
Both the original version and the remix appear on the Fairground EP due for release at the beginning of May. An extended version of the original and another remix complete the listing and can be pre-ordered from here. The Saint Etienne remix can be purchased here.
