The Science of Words – Day Crash/Weekend Away

After hearing their 2019 single In A Space I gave the The Science of Words output a wide berth despite the band containing one of the nicest people I have ever met in indiepop circles.

However when their new single recently came up in my Bandcamp feed (as it’s on the Old Bad Habits label I follow) I gave it a curiosity listen. Blimey what a surprise! The band, who initially comprised of Pete Bowers (ex Rosehips/Horowitz) and his old Jack In The Green colleague Corrine Plant, have been joined by Ian Evans (Horowitz) and Dave Morgan-Williams on rhythm guitar.

Their sound is now inspired by those great female led punk pop bands of the late 1980s (Shop Assistants, Strawberry Story, Fat Tulips, Rosehips etc). The label describe Day Crash, along with it’s reverse side Weekend Away, as “two brand new hits ready to hit the Indie discos around the world” and they are not flippin’ wrong on that score. I love this stuff, the sound of my youth, so excuse me whilst I aim to shed a few pounds on the floor of my imaginary indie disco.

Day Crash/Weekend Away will be released via the Old Bad Habits label on 21 November 2022. Pre-order the limited edition 7″ vinyl and digital formats from here.
