Melbourne based Oceans recent upbeat shoegazing single High was a blinder to say the least. It was the first I had heard from the band, who have recently signed to Shelflife Records, and led me to explore their earlier work which was a mix of 1980s shoegaze, nu-gaze and ambient tones. Now complete with a full time line up they have allowed an act, of whom many have described as shoegazing legends, Tears Run Rings remix that benchmark defying single.
And what a job they have done! By adding layers of sound the track becomes lushly developed, managing to sound like a mix of ethereal shoegaze found on Creation and 4AD whilst combined with the chilled electronica of Warp Records. It’s a scrumptious, heavenly combination. Who knows? Maybe some of those earlier tracks, such as Come So Far, could be pushed through the remixing blender too. They contain the same ingredients after all.
