The Sunday Saunter Sampler

I haven’t done one of these for a while so…… A nice (If I say so myself) mixed bag of styles, new releases and reissues for your Sunday afternoon listening pleasure.

Here is the Playlist:

or listen on YouTube.

Sungaze – What I Wanted to See

Another slice of alt-Americana tinged dreampop from Ohio based Sungaze. Music to listen whilst lying down in a cornfield, stargazing. Ah, so that’s how crop circles happen.

Cozy Slippers – Nobody Knows Me, Anyhow

Nobody Knows Me, Anyhow is the entertaining lead single from Cozy Slippers self-titled debut album. It’s out on October 14 2022 on Vinyl via German label Kleine Untergrund Schallplatten or on CD from the South African label Subjangle. Delectable guitar driven pop. Light up the pipe and put the “cardy” on as well…..

Blushing – Tether

Blushing’s 2017 EP Tether and the following years Waves get a reissue, and for the first time on vinyl, early next year. It’s a welcome chance to rediscover these excellent examples of dreampop. Pre-order the vinyl from here.

Say Sue Me – Old Town

Busan’s Say Sue Me will soon be celebrating their 10th anniversary. To commerate this fact they are releasing an album of covers (Yo La Tengo, Pavement and Guided By Voices to name but a few) alongside two new interpretations of their own songs including Old Town. The album is imaginably titled 10 and will be out next week. Get it from here.

Gladie – Nothing

Philadelphia’s (go Union!) Gladie, who feature Augusta Koch formerly of Cayetana, release their new album Don’t Know What You’re In Until You’re Out on November 18 2022. Nothing is the lead single and is a welcome cobweb busting blast of noisy indie rock. It’s being released by Plum Records and you can pre-order from here.

Pye Corner Audio – Saturation Point (Sonic Boom Remix)

Pye Corner Audio will be releasing an EP of remixes early next month. The originals are to be found on the Let’s Emerge album whilst on that EP they get reworked by ex Spacemen Three/Spectrum frontman Sonic Boom. Saturation Point gets extended and enhanced resulting in a trippy spaghetti western rework. If you are photosensitive give the video a miss.

The Let’s Remerge EP can be pre-ordered, in 10″ orange vinyl, from here.

The Soup Dragons – Our Lips Are Sealed

Precious Recordings of London are releasing four Soup Dragons BBC Sessions on 10″ vinyl on November 04 2022. The sessions were originally recorded for John Peel and Janice Long between 1986-87. The sessions cover their original fuzzy Buzzcocks influenced beginnings to the sound of a new start in June 1987. Also included is the session of cover versions they recorded for Peel in January 1987 from which this cover of the Go-Go’s classic is taken from. No sign of that other cover I’m Free here which would take another few years to appear!

Martes Niebla – Cicatriz

Taken from the brilliant Insolación album which I am ashamed to say is still on my review pile i.e. it isn’t going to happen. Glorious, swirling ethereal dreampop that will appeal to lovers of The Cocteau Twins to Slowdive. Review done! Insolación is out now on El Genio Equivocado.

Slo Moon – Wait

The description above could easily fit the new single from Slo-Moon. Wait is synth driven dreampop which I imagine is the sound of a dying astronaut piercing the earth’s atmosphere. Yeah. I have my moments! Wait can be purchased from here.

The Balloonist – Morning Window

And, if like me, you like to drift off and get totally immersed in music you can get quite easily lost then the new self titled album from The Balloonist should be right up your street. The label describes the music as “a lost TV or film soundtrack from the 70s” which “offers you a temporary escape from the present”. They are not kidding. An excellent mix of post-rock and ambient.

The Balloonist can be pre-ordered from Wayside & Woodland Recordings.
