The Hiding In The Shade Sampler

London’s burning in record breaking sunshine once again – literally on the commons near where I live which have caught fire more than once this past week. Here is a selection of tunes to cool me, and you, down.

Here is the Playlist:

or listen on YouTube.

Theatre Royal – 1994

1994 is the lead track from the band’s latest EP titled Beneath The Floor EP. It sounds like it was made in Liverpool circa 1982 and there is more than a hint of Pete Wylie in the vocals. Which can only be a good thing! The Beneath The Floor EP EP can be purchased from here.

The Crystal Furs – Charlatan

Hot on the heels of their recent covers project with Pennywhistle Park the “Furs” release the first single to be taken from their forthcoming album In Coastal Light which will be released later this year via Reckless Yes. Surpb vocals on this one!

Sunnbrella – Wrong

The latest single from the London based Sunbrella who describe their music as “beat-driven melancholy”. Wrong sounds like a track off the first two Ride EPs. I will have to explore their back catalogue too.

Moon In June – Summer Pop’97

The Tokyo based shoegazers are back with a new line up and their first music in a couple of years. The very erm, poppy, Summer Pop’97 is taken from their new Evergreen EP which is out now via Dreamwaves Records.

Jim Nothing – Yellow House

Superb power-pop from New Zealand. Yellow House isz taken from the forthcoming album In The Marigolds which will see the light of day on September 15 2022. Pre-order from Meritorio Records who have a knack of releasing the good stuff.

Blume – Earth Shaker

Earth Shaker is taken from the current album Waves Of Love. It, like the rest of the album, is a mix of drone, krautrock, dreampop and psychedelia. Earth Shaker sounds like Neu! and Spacemen Three being merged in Seth Brundle’s teleport machine. Waves Of Love can be purchased from here.

Puzzles y Dragones – El final de mi Felicidad

Translating as the end of my happiness the track is taken from the forthcoming, and as of yet, untitled album which is due for release in the Winter, A delightful indiepop tune with some lovely female backing vocals and trumpets. If Fanfarlo were signed to Sarah Records they may have sounded like this. El final de mi Felicidad is out now via El Genio Equivocado.

Buddhist Bubblegum – Seems Like Yesterday

More Beatles inspired indiepop from Slovenia’s Buddhist Bubblegum. The track is taken from the Cavern Brew Records compilation I’ll Will Sing With You. The label has just called it a day and the compilation encapsulates it’s seven year history.

The Prize – Wrong Side Of Town

Sounding like a blast of new wave/power pop circa 78/79 Wrong Side Of Town is the title track of the band’s debut EP which will be released on September 02 2022 via Anti-Fade Records. Superb!

Dollgirl – Heavenly

Heavenly is a floating ethereal dreampop track resplendent with some absolutely gorgeous, and jaw dropping, vocals. It’s erm, heavenly!
