I hope that all the Ukrainian based bands I have featured on this blog over the years are safe and well.
This weeks pack of three features three new singles, freshly arrived in my inbox.
Sugar For The Pill – Quicksand
Quicksand is the second single to be taken from the forthcoming album Wanderlust. As the band name may suggest there are a number of Slowdive influences here and it also sounds like Lush in places. That said the vocals of Vana Rose will always give the Athens’ based shoegazers a distinct edge. Quicksand is as good as, if not better, than the previous single Falling Back To You.
Boy With Apple – Linger On
Linger On is the sound of gothic shoegaze thanks to the Cocteau Twins influences and darkwave inspired synths. That voice! There is still time for some swirling guitars too. Marvellous as ever from the Gothenburg based trio.
Roller Derby – Starry-Eyed
The latest single from Hamburg’s Roller Derby is a vibrant indiepop song. Despite the grave words it errs on the catchy side thanks to the vigorous melodies and energetic synths.
