Post Punk Tuesday

Today’s post concentrates on compilations that will give you an instant post-punk collection and a playlist for a very dark and happy new year!

Zeitgeist Vol. 15

Cold Transmission’s regular series is always an essential listen (and purchase) for the post-punk fan. Coming hot on the heels of Volume 14 the latest selection contains a preview of the forthcoming album from Gray Gallows alongside tracks exclusive to this compilation. Some of my faves are here such as Iamtheshadow, Blind Delon, The Sea At Midnight, The Control Room alongside some of the newer acts in the “scene”. Another great round-up….

La Danse Macabre 9

Another series I buy regularly is the La Danse Macabre volumes from the German label At Sea Compilations. A quick look at the tracklist suggests most of these bands are new to me so there can be plenty to discover when I fully get stuck in. That said I never need to hear Principe Valiente’s cover of Mister Mister’s Broken Wings ever again. Tracks from Blue Navy and Logical Tears stood out for me. I have already purchased the discography from the former.

Artoffact Records 2020 Sampler

Canadian label Artoffact Records made some headlines earlier this year when it was announced they had signed the excellent Russian band Ploho. The label plays to this strength and Ploho’s latest single Прости opens this compilation. That’s not the only ace the label has up their sleeves as some names that may be familiar to you also appear here. These include Actors, Bootblacks, The Foreign Resort and Frontline Assembly. The label also covers other genres such as death-rock and metal and whilst that did not appeal to me there is enough here to keep me entertained.
