Lost Echoes chop and change their style with each release and if gothic shoegaze was a genre they certainly would fit right into it on their latest EP. The title track features a coldwave vocal style over layered guitars giving the song a dark feel. The smothering guitars feature strongly over the final two tracks as the vocals are dispersed within. It’s effective stuff and on Journey it works an absolute treat. Shoegaze doesn’t mean mimicking the likes of Ride or My Bloody Valentine note for note. As Lost Echoes demonstrate, the addition of an idea here or an idea there, means that there is plenty room for expansion in a sometimes tired genre.
