Browned Butter – Toothpaste

Toothpaste is the second EP from Kyoto’s Browned Butter. Building upon last years Fall EP the tracks here crank up the noise levels adding a layer of noise over the bands previous indiepop/shoegaze orientated sound. Sadly I am not convinced it works.

The title track, and the best effort here, is reminiscent of Swervedriver thanks to the intensity of the guitars whilst the remainder of the EP draws from grunge and the louder parts of Britpop. Download the title track for sure but for the rest, and especially to these ears, it’s a case of one step forward, two steps back.
