Regular readers may have noted I have a love hate relationship with The Catherines. Take their last two releases prior to this. How Come You Think Everybody Likes You? is a fuzzy pop tune that took from Primal Scream’s Velocity Girl and much more besides. It was great. That contrasted to Why Are You Always So Sarcastic... I haven’t really got The Catherines or their appeal. Their music, artwork, song titles and lyrics all seem straight out of the C86/indiepop template recipe book. Don’t get me wrong they can make a good tune but it just seems to be the same one churned out time and time again. It all just seems to be too cliched for my liking.
