The Catherines – Sense

The Catherines cover Terry Hall’s Sense to great aplomb, turning Hall’s maudlin original into a shimmering indiepop classic. It sounds a bit like The Lightning Seeds, but given Ian Broudie co-wrote the original back in 1994 and that the Lightning Seeds also released a version, that should come as no surprise. The trick is that the song has been enhanced so much so that it sounds as it’s their own composition. Given the pedigree behind the track, that is no mean feat.

It can be found on Fadeawayradiate Records Missing: A Tribute to Terry Hall EP in dedication to the late Specials frontman. Also appearing are The Hepburns who cover The Colourfields Thinking Of You whilst Nah… cover Summer Follows Spring, a song that originally appears on Hall’s Laugh album.

It’s available on a free/pay what you basis, but all monies raised go to Tonic, which was a mental health charity close to Hall’s heart.
