Wittering from an old indie kid whether it's c86, indiepop, jangle pop, post-punk, coldwave, shoegaze or dreampop!
I haven’t really got The Catherines or their appeal. Their music, artwork, song titles and lyrics all seem straight out of the C86/indiepop template recipe book. Don’t get me wrong they can make a good tune but it just seems to be the same one churned out time and time again. It all just seems to be too cliched for my liking.
That said, and to create a balance, Sorry, But Your Suicide Note Is Really Funny is a catchy song and maybe it’s the addition of strong female vocals that gives it some spark which generates interest to these ears. I am happy to listen and buy this one. I still don’t get them though!
