Records I Like Top 10 2015

2015 was the year I listened to the shoegaze and post punk revivalists in earnest. Club AC30 and Manic Depression Records both deserve a mention alongside the usual cohorts of Dufflecoat Records and Oddbox Records who delivered their signature brand of indiepop, diy and noise pop. I also started listening to full albums again with efforts from The Chills, Beirut and Robert Forster being high on the recommended list. I am still catching up with my backlog though and being heavily played these past few weeks are the likes of Appendixes and Tomiji. So without further ado here is my … Continue reading Records I Like Top 10 2015

Something For The Weekend

How about some electronica for the weekend? Copy For Collapse – Grey Sunday (Proxy Remix) A very good remix of Grey Sunday by Proxy. Not as accessible as the original (which you can find here) but still impresses with a much harder sound. Facebook New Order – Plastic If Restless and it’s pretty boring remixes got you down and had you thinking it sounded the death knell (again!) for New Order then you may have to have a rethink! Plastic is pretty good and must be the next single surely given it’s remix potential. It sounds like the band has … Continue reading Something For The Weekend

The Morelings – Lonesome Tonight

A shimmering dreampop cover of New Order’s Lonesome Tonight by The Morelings who have taken the original and made it their own rather than make a carbon copy. It’s taken from Dreams Never End, A Tribute To New Order which is currently available via the Brazilian label The Blog That Celebrates Itself Records which has a history of releasing tribute albums. And here is the original which was found on the flip side of Thieves Like Us back in 1984. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2Z9IsKHjqY Facebook Continue reading The Morelings – Lonesome Tonight

Holiday Tuneage!

It’s going to be a bit silent around here for the next couple of weeks whilst I am away but that doesn’t mean that there will be nothing left to listen too judging by this round up post which features some music I have meaning to mention separately but time etc. First up is The Death of Pop with their new single Bubble Bath that features four excellent indie pop tracks. Not much progression from their previous work but if it ain’t broke………………. The excellent The Choo Choo Trains, who describe themselves as playing “girl-guide Shoegaze”, have a new cassette … Continue reading Holiday Tuneage!

New Order – Live at Bestival 2012

I have written a few times about Peter Hook now. What about his ex New Order band mates? Whilst Hooky may have gone Gillian has returned to the band and this apparently coincides with the band returning to a more electronic based sound after a decade of lad rock and the totally unnecessary release of Lost Sirens. So what is happening while we are waiting for new material? Last year the band headline Bestival on the Isle of Wight and by all accounts it was an outstanding performance. I have been enjoying some of it on you tube. They also … Continue reading New Order – Live at Bestival 2012
