After hearing Humsikk’s recent collaboration with Amy Amanda & The Cottons, I was hoping that line up would bear more fruit. I thought it was a one-off, but little did I know it was the title track of the band’s new EP sans collaborators. Alone, as the title may suggest, is a slice of melancholy indiepop. Indonesian band The Wellington follow up their recent split single with The Sweetest Touch with a taster for their forthcoming debut album. It’s So Fine sees the band drop the psychedelic and baroque influences from the aforementioned split single and replacing them with a sound reminiscent of Creation Records 1989/90. Given that the latest Ride album is yet another disappointment The Wellington are a worthy replacement to fill their shoes based on this excellent dreamy, retro sounding track. Roll on that album! Untitled is a split recording between two connected Indonesian bands (shared members?) The Sweetest Touch and The Wellington and both contribute two tracks each. The Sweetest Touch continue their trip down There And Back Again Lane haunted by the ghosts of Sarah Records past. A lazy comparison some might say but it’s still valid as both Answer and Bitter testify. Whilst it may well be a new sound to some I am hoping the 100% adoration with the said label will stop at some point and the band will develop their own sound.
