Louïse Papier – Spark Again

Louise Papier is the project of French artist Blanche, no surname! On the debut single Spark Again (I am presuming it is) she is joined by label mate Lesneu. It’s a synth-pop track with 1980s influences whether it’s OMD or minimal wave. I like the way the joint vocals work scattered throughout the track but the voice of Blanche standout regardless. There are some beautiful synths too and the song is a thoughtful, dreamy with a sense of disillusionment too. Sapphire & Steel – Evelina

Sapphire & Steel, the band comprising Estella Rosa (Nah…) and Jørn Åleskjær, are not constrained by any one genre as part of their retro-pop project. We have had disco, MOR and folk scattered across their two releases to date. On the new single Evelina janglepop and 1980’s pop music entwine as the song tells a tale “of a girl you will pass her by on the street without noticing.” The words spin a melancholy tale, one of regret and self-imposed suffering.
