The Sensibles – Ice Cream man

More punk pop/new wave inspired tracks from Milan’s The Sensibles. The a-side is an enjoyable full on guitar-based power pop romp whilst the flip is more laid back but just as effective. Regardless of the style singer Stella’s vocals excel on both tracks. Make mine a 99! It’s limited to just 200 7″ vinyl copies or is available digitally. Get it from Bandcamp. The Haywains – Girl In The Holly Court Diner EP

Well it’s here. The first release on Whoops Records!, the label myself and Gary (ex Dufflecoat Records) have set up kicks off in style with a 7″ EP from punk-pop veterans The Haywains. I won’t gush so give it a listen and if it grabs your fancy grab a copy of this limited edition 7″ (300 copies only) from bandcamp. Enjoy! The Haywains Whoops-Records! Mighty Mighty – Misheard Love Songs EP

Mighty Mighty, one of the C86 originals, return with a new EP that points in the direction of a new album due for release next year. The Misheard Love Songs EP is the bands first new “single” since Maisonette in 1988 and I have been waiting for some new material since their excellent return at Indietracks gawd knows how long ago now. Welcome back chaps! Available digitally from Bandcamp. Facebook Continue reading Mighty Mighty – Misheard Love Songs EP

The Tuts – 1982

A fantastic punk-pop single from West London’s The Tuts. The song is a stinging rebuke for a former manager who it seems wronged the wrong band! 1982 , like most of the band’s output, is inherently catchy. 1982 is taken from the band’s recently released debut long player Update Your Brain which you can pre-order from here. Yumi Yumi Hip Hop – Enamorats EP

Barcelona’s wonderfully named Yumi Yumi Hip Hop are spot on with their 1980’s influenced tunes. Taking their cues from the likes of Talulah Gosh and The Rosehips they deliver two slices of fun packed indiepop. The fuzzy guitars really sound like the latter on the second track Madonna and it’s as long as one of theirs too. Am I Thrilled To Bits by Yumi Yumi Hip Hop? You bet I am! The Enamorats EP (can two tracks be an EP?) is out on 7″ from Snap! Clap! or digitally from the band. Facebook Continue reading Yumi Yumi Hip Hop – Enamorats EP

Blind Delon – Edouard EP

Excellent post-punk from French act Blind Delon via Spanish label Oráculo Records. The music is a mix of minimal synth-pop coupled with a fair share of Gothic undertones. Stuff like this really cheers me up no end and this EP has been on regular play for the past week. Excellent stuff and is recommended for fans of Factory Benelux and Les Disques du Crépuscule for one (or should that be two?). Available on 12″ vinyl or digitally. Fascinations Grand Chorus – Welcome

I briefly mentioned Fascinations Grand Chorus in a round up a few months back where I enthused about their retro sound on Welcome, the 1960’s tinged lead track from their debut self released EP. They have now made a video for that track that captures that retro vibe perfectly.  It reminds me of Lucky Soul. What ever happened to them? And it’s more good news as a second EP Actor/Actress follows next month. Facebook Continue reading Fascinations Grand Chorus – Welcome

Sighs – Fiends EP

I was taken with the Sighs track Feel that came out last summer. It reminded me of a mix of 1980’s indie and dream pop. Just over a year later they carry on in the same vein on the Fiends EP but things go a bit skewriff towards the end… The opener Lost sounds anything but as it heads for the indiepop dance-floors with it’s driving synths, infectious vocals and trumpets whilst Surface Tension will become a fave thanks once more to the trumpets and driving melodies. Trouble is they start to falter on the remaining two tracks. The ideas … Continue reading Sighs – Fiends EP
