The Morelings – We Were

The Morelings debut album Same Century is out this week and We Were is the lead single taken from it. It’s a fine slice of luscious, polished dreampop and is a firm indicator of what the album may bring. Buy Same Century from here. The band have also covered The Psychedelic Furs classic Heaven for Highwire Days, The Psychedelic Furs´ Reverence tribute album that has recently been released by The Blog That Celebrates Itself Records. It’s a free download from here. Facebook Continue reading The Morelings – We Were

A Voice That Whispers In My Head – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 4

As promised yesterday here is the second mix for this weekend. This time the mix concentrates on coldwave, post-punk and minimal wave to cover a few genres! As I get older I find myself progressing back to listening to the music in my youth and this mix certainly reminds me of those times. There is some wonderful stuff here from Europe and the States – enjoy! Continue reading A Voice That Whispers In My Head – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 4

We’re Doing Fine – A Records I Like Playlist (September #2)

It’s been a strange month both inside and outside of work so I have not had the time to post as much as I would have liked. So here is the first of two playlists that I will post this weekend covering indiepop, shoegaze, dream pop and alt-rock. Enjoy. Continue reading We’re Doing Fine – A Records I Like Playlist (September #2)

Like You Less – A Records I Like Playlist (September 2017 #1)

Well we are well into the month so it’s about time for a playlist rounding up the various tracks that have been catching my ear via the usual places. That’s not when I have been listening to the new album, The Punishment of Luxury, from Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark which is surprisingly very good. I have also been catching up with 2013’s English Electric which is even better. Back to the playlist which features some excellent tracks from the likes of Jetstream Pony, Tough Age, Glass Arcades, Closure and many more! Continue reading Like You Less – A Records I Like Playlist (September 2017 #1)

Even As We Speak – The Black Forest

Indiepop veterans, John Peel faves and ex Sarah Records band Even As We Speak have released their first material since 1993. Entitled The Black Forest it’s a 5 track EP and the first three songs here sound like they have never been away. Standout tracks Clouds and Such A Good Feeling are likely to be two of the best indiepop songs you are likely to hear this year. To these ears it’s sadly let down by the last two tracks and maybe it should be a three track 7″ rather than a 10″ release as planned. But that’s what fast … Continue reading Even As We Speak – The Black Forest

Peter Hook – Dancing Madly Backwards

You don’t hear much new stuff from Peter Hook who seems to tour solidly with his Peter Hook and the Light project these days – and most excellent they are too. He has surfaced with a track on Cleopatra Records with his version of Captain Beyond’s Dancing Madly Backwards which shares a limited 12″ record with a Ministry version of the same track. You can buy it from here. He even provides two remixes of his cover under his Man Ray guise. Buy digitally from here. Facebook Continue reading Peter Hook – Dancing Madly Backwards

Jetstream Pony – Like You Less

Brighton based Jetstream Pony release their debut single Like You Less next week on German label Kleine Untergrund Schallplatten. It’s a vintage sounding indiepop song which reminds me of an early Primitives. C17 or what! It’s available on 7″ and details of how to order it can be found here. In other news the band play their first ever London gig at London’s Victoria on October 6th 2017. It’s a free gig and I know all this as I am promoting it! Details on the events’s Facebook page. Edit: And now a video for the flip side. Facebook Continue reading Jetstream Pony – Like You Less

Seafang – Solid Gold

Seafang follow up last years excellent Motorcycle Song single with two more slices of C86 era fuzzy indie pop. Solid Gold harks back to the likes of The Shop Assistants, The Fizzbombs and a lazy era Primitives. Stardust adds some shoegaze to the layers of fuzziness sounding like a transitional My Bloody Valentine. Excellent!. It’s out via Emotional Response on vinyl and CD formats or pick it up digitally from the band. Facebook Continue reading Seafang – Solid Gold
