Star Horse – Albatross

Albatross is the first we have heard from Sweden’s dreampop act Star Horse since the excellent Slower Now single released back in 2015. It’s worth the wait as Albatross soars across the skies as the song shines, having an almost spiritual feel over the course of it’s eight and a half minutes “flight”. Albatross is taken from the forthcoming album You Said Forever due for release in February next year. Facebook Continue reading Star Horse – Albatross

Elenin – Massa Masa

I noticed yet another Indonesian label on bandcamp earlier this week in the shape of Dont Fade Away Records and have been making by way through the four releases currently available including Massa Masa by Elenin. Opener Kalam has shimmering guitars and female vocals to die for whilst the title track is a nosier alt rock effort that harks back to the noughties. However it is the closing track Technyancolor that clinches it for me with it’s noisy fuzzy guitars that gives Elenin a semblance of being an Indonesian version of Welsh rockers Melys. Get it from here. Continue reading Elenin – Massa Masa

yawyaw – yawyaw

When listening too I’m Relax I get the same adrenaline rush as I did when I first heard The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. In fact the track could have come from the aforementioned band’s debut EP and it is fuzzy indiepop at it’s finest. The second track Kiss isn’t bad but barely starts before it’s over. Loads of promise here and it’s pop music for an ideal world. Out now on Supercrush Records. Continue reading yawyaw – yawyaw

Tiny Magnetic Pets – Radio On

Radio On, which features ex Kraftwerk member Wolfgang Flür, originally appeared on last year’s Deluxe/Debris album and now has been released featuring a number of remixes to support the Dublin based band’s continued touring in support of OMD. The original version is very poppy and whilst their are some nice bits it’s not a keeper for me. However it’s on the remixes where things get interesting with all the remixers stripping out the radio friendly vocals. Happy Robots stalwart Alice Hubble produces a mellotron based remix that blissfully wanders whilst London based droners The Leaf Library produce a contemplative response … Continue reading Tiny Magnetic Pets – Radio On

Earache – Voices/Parasite

Earache hail from down under and is the project of Gemma Nourse (No Stars, Shopgirl) and David Fenderson (Territory, Sob Story, Cure). This, their debut release, features two slices of dreamy indiepop with more than a hint of shoegazing about it’s person and lovely boy/girl vocals to the boot too. The debut album Last follows soon. Meanwhile head over to Lacklustre Records to get this excellent double header on cassette or digital formats. It’s also available digitally from Black Wire Records. Thanks, mainly to singer Stephanie’s voice, you can take your pick and compare the band to any number of girl bands as you like. Grand by name and grand by nature.
