яблоня – перекресток

There are some lovely sounds on the new single from Moscow’s яблоня (Apple Tree). Where as previous single еврокафе demonstrated that it was a fine example of coldwave inspired post-punk перекресток on the other hand is pure synth pop. Part New Order, part Saint Etienne and lots of parts whistling it’s the band’s poppiest moment to date. However when translated, the lyrics suggests it is about a one night stand with the protagonist suffering from regret or pausing for reflection. Either way I don’t think I am going to stop whistling for sometime yet. vk.com Continue reading яблоня – перекресток

Post-Punk Sunday

The new single from Cold Cave is a cover of Absolute Body Control‘s Waving Hands. It stays faithful to the original although sounding darker and denser. Get it from here whilst the original version is available here. Warsaw Pact have released an album of demos called, erm Demos (2016-2109). The release includes two previously unheard demos in the shape of Made by Design & Discshop Inquisition. Maybe it’s one for the fans who are familiar with the originals but given it’s available on a pay what you want basis it’s also a good introduction to the band. Midnight Cure always … Continue reading Post-Punk Sunday

Origan – Amour De Zoulette

French indie poppers band Origan release their debut EP on Greek label Melotron Recordings early next month. Titled T’es Pas Un Amour it features six tracks including EP teaser Amour De Zoulette which brings together dreamy vocals and synths mixed with guitars and electronica. The vocal are delight, soon becoming infectious as boy/girl voices sing an unintelligible chant/chorus/passage – given a listen and you will hear what I mean. T’es Pas Un Amour is available in CD (including an extremely limited and almost sold out art edition) and digital formats. Pre-order it from here. Weekend Round Up #2

I am writing this one later than expected and as I listen, being a nice varied mix on this blustery Sunday Night. Australian indiepop legends Even As We Speak will be releasing a new album on Shelflife Records and Discos De Kirlian in June. Forgiving is the first single to be lifted from said album and it is, as you would expect from the band, to be a lovely twee/c86 inspired slab of pop music. The band play London’s Lexington on March 28th supported by Jetstream Pony and The Hannah Barberas. Guess who can’t make it – sigh. Talking of … Continue reading Weekend Round Up #2

яблоня- еврокафе

Moscow’s Apple Tree have just released their first new track in just over year. Titled еврокафе (eurocafeby if google translate has got it right) it’s a coldwave inspired post punk track with a slow burning sound. The female vocals sound downcast and gloomy whilst the lyrics forlornly hope for better things. As it continues to sheet it down in London town еврокафе seems to be an appropriate soundtrack as any. The Post (Punk) Ear Infection Catch Up Post #3

Quite a lot of post-punk has been bookmarked this year without too much of a mention on these pages. Time to rectify that. Das Funus come from one of my favourite cities (Prague) and they released two tracks in February. These are their first recordings for a few years. The band’s sound is darkwave with an epic Gothic tinge. Bože Odpověz errs on the edge of midnight whilst the slower paced Staré Domy highlights the female vocals which I am always a sucker for. Stream and/or buy from here. Brussels’ (yep another fave) based Ultra Sunn aim for the post-punk … Continue reading The Post (Punk) Ear Infection Catch Up Post #3

It contains eight songs which have been mixed and mastered by Fred Thomas from Saturday Looks Good To Me amongst others. The band have made available a preview track in the shape of I Don’t Care. It’s a thriving indie-pop track that mixes melodic guitars, synths and the voice of Frankie Ma to great effect. Red Sleeping Beauty with Cristina Quesada – Mi Amor

Red Sleeping Beauty have reworked their 2016 single Mi Amor with Spanish pop singer Cristina Quesada on vocals. It’s not the first collaboration between the two having previously worked on last summer’s Chicas De Madrid single. On this version the synths sound lower and deeper whilst Quesada’s amazing varied vocal style, which range from the childlike to the spoken, give the song additional dimensions when comparing against the original. It’s backed with a Fuerteventura Version and is available digitally from the Red Sleeping Beauty bandcamp page.
