Molly – As Years Go By EP

Two lengthy slabs of epic melancholic shoegaze from Austrian duo Molly. Both tracks are pretty impressive and, despite their length, I am yet to get tired of them. I am really liking the crackle effects on Milk Teeth. A few plays later I am still wondering if it’s fire or worn vinyl that is causing them. I think we have missed the 10″ pressing but you can get it digitally from bandcamp. Homepage Facebook Continue reading Molly – As Years Go By EP

Catching Up with Long Players!

Young Romance – Another’s Blood After what seemed like aeons Young Romance finally released their debut album at the back end of last month. Because of that the album does have that “best of” feel but given the likes of previous singles Pale and Wild who can really complain? Buy it from here or digitally from the band. Facebook Bubblegum Lemonade – The Great Leap Backward I must admit to having mixed feelings about Bubblegum Lemonade these days. I was not too impressed by July’s Beard On A Bike EP as, aside from the title track, the rest of their … Continue reading Catching Up with Long Players!

From Russia With Love

Three Russian bands for your enjoyment today including two who I have mentioned before. First up is Moscow’s Commis Voyageur whose new digital single Youth is about being young. Yeah I vaguely remember that. Anyway both tracks here, Moonlight and Submissive, are catchy synth led efforts with the former taking the glory as it is the most vigorous of the two. Available as a free download from Bandcamp. Facebook For The Empty is the new single from Herlights and like above this title does not appear on either of the two tracks that comprise it. Laidback dream pop at its … Continue reading From Russia With Love

September Round Up Time!

I have been a bit slack on posting these past couple of weeks but I have some good excuses for that! Firstly I have set up a new record label with my Sleeping Today Promotions collaborator. I have also been helping promote the next Culture Bunker night which takes place on October 22nd and it will also be part of the #keepingitpeel events for 2016. And on to getting back on track and the music that has been grabbing me of late. Indiepop supergroup (?) Tangible Excitement! will  be releasing a new 7″ single shortly on Freakscene (UK & Europe) … Continue reading September Round Up Time!

Youthmemory – April Kisses

April Kisses from Tokyo’s Youthmemory is a shining indiepop/shoegaze hybrid that feels just right in London’s searing heat. Due to the shimmering guitars it soon becomes somewhat infectious causing my head to bop up and down. Thankfully there is no cure! It was available on cassette from The Stone Records but that has sold out but you can still get it digitally from the band. Facebook Continue reading Youthmemory – April Kisses

Herlights – One Day

Well I am back from my holidays and away from all the punk I have been listening too on bandcamp during that period as well and there is more to come on that another time. Not sure what struck me initially about the One Day EP by Russian band Herlights. It may have been the name or the cover but I am glad I gave it a listen as it is a fine little EP mixing post-punk (those vocals alone) with shoegaze/dreampop and some fine drone/krautrock inspired programming too. Standout track for me is Morning Song which takes all those … Continue reading Herlights – One Day

Milkmustache – Imagine Us Together

Milkmustache are a Chinese Shoegaze band who hail from the city of Shenzhen. Given the tracks here they could easily have come from the city of dreaming spires instead. Actually thinking about it you would have to head further north to Leeds because there is more than a passing resemblance to The Pale Saints rather than Ride on these tracks even down to the song titles such as Dolphin and Shell Button. Those two songs are the highlights here being melodic, delicate and sometimes haunting. Dreamy spires indeed! Imagine Us Together is out via the BoringProductions label. Follow the labels … Continue reading Milkmustache – Imagine Us Together

Flyying Colours – It’s Tomorrow Now

It’s Tomorrow Now is the first single to be taken from Flyying Colour’s debut album Mindfullness that is due to be released in September on Club AC30. The album becomes an intriguing prospect after listening to this given that it’s a hybrid of psychedelic sounds, rock guitars and noise pop. Now there is a night out. Maybe tomorrow? Homepage Facebook Continue reading Flyying Colours – It’s Tomorrow Now

Your Friends Polymers – Snow

I heard Your Friends Polymers, or to give them their correct Russian name Твои друзья полимеры, for the first time via The Pop Underground Volume One compilation that is due for release next month. The compilation seeks to showcase the best of the current Russian underground scene. Your Friends Polymers contribution Snow is a poppier take on the shoegaze genre complete with fuzzy guitars and those hard to discern ethereal female vocals I am a sucker for. I must check out more! The Pop Underground Volume One is available in digital formats from here. The cassette version has sold out. … Continue reading Your Friends Polymers – Snow
