Blankenberge – Right Now

Right Now is the first we have heard from Russian dreampop/shoegaze band Blankenberge since their stunning 2017 album Radiogaze. Ethereal female vocals move furtively throughout the effortless guitars whilst the drums stir into action. The title track of the aforementioned album gets remixed by éntha and sees the track’s original industrial sound clashing and then merging with experimental electronica. Hopefully a new album will emerge this year and if it does Right Now is an indication that they may well top their previous effort! Facebook Continue reading Blankenberge – Right Now

Taking it one track at a time

Rei Clone – Lavender Lavender is the third single to be lifted from the forthcoming album Greetings From Somewhere. It’s more noise from these Texan shoegazers and this track reminds me a bit of early Lush. Roll on that album. Facebook The Reds, Pinks & Purples – Dead End Days (demo) Is there any more I can add about the The Reds, Pinks & Purples in addition to what I have written about them already? I thought not so I will let the music speak for itself and to be fair it’s doing a damn fine job! Noxantes – Fingers-Crossed … Continue reading Taking it one track at a time

Eternal Something – Realm//Zone EP

We heard nowt from Eternal Something in 2018 but now they are back at the start of 2019 with this incredibly listenable EP. Comprising four tracks of dreampop/nugaze that sits somewhere between Pinkshinyultrablast and Fawns of Love the songs swoop and swirl around the listeners consciousness. The guitars shimmer whilst the drumming and programming is excellent suiting the ethereal vocals down to the ground none more so than on Voice. It’s powerful and enchanting music. Grab a copy for free (or pay what you want) from here. Facebook Continue reading Eternal Something – Realm//Zone EP

Funeral Advantage – Black House

Funeral Advantage release their new EP/mini album Nectarine next month and Black House is the first track to be lifted from it. I am not sure if the track is fully representative of the rest of the new album as it’s sound has moved significantly away from 2017’s guitar driven Please Help Me whilst Black House is a tasty slab of synth driven dreampop (surely gloompop!). Who knows what the new album will bring but for now I am enjoying this one. You can pre-order Nectarine from here. Homepage Continue reading Funeral Advantage – Black House

Spoon God – Dead Hipsters

French act Spoon God have been around for a few years now and this brand new EP seems to be their first release since 2014. They make music which transcends genres and on this EP you can hear everything from drone to Krautrock or alt-rock to post-punk. I must confess I found some of the tracks hard to get into at first but there are some here that grow worthy of your ears attention such as the coldwave inspired The Real Thrill (666 Queer Cult) and Seventeen which slow burns with pulsing guitars. However the title track stands out for … Continue reading Spoon God – Dead Hipsters

Cosmetic – Inetti n.1

Another fine release on Italian dreampop/shoegaze label Lady Sometimes. Inetti n.1 is an upbeat dream pop effort despite some of it’s sombre lyrics (thanks google translate!). I would be hard pressed not to believe that this wasn’t a track on any number of the Indie Top 20 albums from the 1990’s given it’s excellent retro sound. I have not heard of the band before and without the likes of this label I wonder if I ever would. They have been around for a few years now given their Bandcamp discography. More delving methinks! Something For The Weekend? Shoegaze Variations

This weeks pack of three features three new Shoegazing tracks with variations on a theme. Misty Coast – Backseat Warriors Norwegian outfit and the wonderfully named Misty Coast described themselves as Melodaze. Made up of two members of Megaphonic Thrift they have released a number of tracks since 2016 with Backseat Warriors being the latest. There are some lovely sounds here mixed with shimmering guitars and female ethereal vocals. Shoegaze to chill too. Facebook Rusted Satellites – Constellations (Demo) Constellations is the sound of a psychedelic and spiritual variant of shoegaze. The lyrics are poignant and vocals are sublime. It’s … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Shoegaze Variations

If the 55 tracks in the Best of 2018 mixes/playlists were not enough I have compiled a track each from most of the releases featured on Records I Like in 2018 in a handy Spotify playlist. If you use Deezer don’t worry as here is a link to an almost identical playlist on that service. Have a great new year and I will “see” you all in 2019!
