Boy With Apple – Green Eyes

Green Eyes is the new single from Gothenburg based Boy With Apple and is the follow up to January’s debut single Make Me Feel Needed/Living Space. Like the latter the new single is synth/keyboard driven dreampop ably supported by reflective guitars and intertwined vocals. The opening 30 seconds of synths is lovely to say the least. If you like your dreampop of the epic and expansive variety then I suggest you check this track out sharpish. Green Eyes is available digitally via VÅRØ. Facebook EDIT. If anyone finds that debut single in lossless formats please let me know via the … Continue reading Boy With Apple – Green Eyes

Secret Shine – Ember

New track Ember is the first new material from Bristol’s Secret Shine since 2017s There Is Only Now album. It’s also the first of five download songs the band have planned for 2020. These songs, along with a batch of half a dozen more, will form the new album due for release next year. So what about the track itself? If slow burning ethereal shoegaze is your thing you cannot go wrong with Ember as the band turn back the years once more. A perfect introduction for those planned songs and the album too I guess. Get it from here. … Continue reading Secret Shine – Ember

The Wednesday Mix

The Yearning has gone all ABBA on us as the new single Only When I’m Dancing demonstrates. The flip side Moonlight Fantasy errs on the side of disco. It all brings up images of wide lapels, flares, tassels, sparkling dresses and glitter balls. It’s very nice and fun too – check out the video. I wonder if they will move onto the 1980s next? When I’m Dancing is out now in digital formats via Elefant Records. Atlanta’s Bathe Alone has released six tracks since last September with new track In Deep being the latest. It’s an indie-rock track that tells … Continue reading The Wednesday Mix

The Tuesday Session

My inbox is still full of emails from the latest Bandcamp Friday fallout. Anyway here is a round-up post of sorts highlighting tunes that have got me through the day Russian bandMashmellow have released the second single to be taken from their forthcoming EP Someday Club which is due for release at the beginning of next month. Can you take a single from an EP? Oh well. Anyway Heaven is You still has that New Order guitar sound coupled with female vocals. A nice pop song! Brighton’s (or is it London now?) Empire of Dreams released a limited edition cassette … Continue reading The Tuesday Session

Records I Like Mix June 2020

If I said to myself in 1988 I would be compiling a “mixtape” in 2020 featuring The Flatmates, The Wolfhounds, Wendy Pickles from The Popguns and ex Popgun/Weddoes drummer Shaun Charman I would have said I was a bit bonkers. Well, 32 years later it seems I am bonkers after all as they all feature on this months mix which features tracks covering indie-pop, jangle-pop, shoegaze and alt-rock. It’s nice to see kosmische (“Krautrock”) creeping into indie and dream pop too. Enjoy! Full Tracklisting and details: The Flatmates – If You Love Me Let Me Know Taken from the new … Continue reading Records I Like Mix June 2020

Prepare My Glider – Smokesong

Canadian Shoegazers Prepare My Glider announced they have a long-player in the offering. Smokesong is the first track to lifted from the as-yet-untitled album and given the references to Ride, My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive on the Bandcamp page you may have some expectations on how this track sounds. However, rather than being a fully-fledged shoegazing track, Smokesong heads back to the earlier times of ethereal wave namely 4AD artists like The Cocteau Twins. It’s a wonderfully executed mixing reverb-laden guitars, otherworldly vocals and subtle, ambient passages. It’s backed with a demo of No Early Warning which dives deep into … Continue reading Prepare My Glider – Smokesong

Mo Dotti – Blurring EP

Following on from a couple of preview tracks Los Angles based Mo Dotti have released their debut EP. Titled Blurring it features five tracks of ethereal shoegaze that sounds like it has come straight out of the 4AD back catalogue namely Lush and The Pale Saints. That’s not a bad starting point to be fair and the band’s shimmering shoegaze sound takes me back decades it has to be said. The voice of Gina Negrini is a delight and in my imagination, I can drift off high into the clouds whilst listening to this lovely, but sometimes, forlorn, EP. The … Continue reading Mo Dotti – Blurring EP
