The Sensibles – Ice Cream man

More punk pop/new wave inspired tracks from Milan’s The Sensibles. The a-side is an enjoyable full on guitar-based power pop romp whilst the flip is more laid back but just as effective. Regardless of the style singer Stella’s vocals excel on both tracks. Make mine a 99! It’s limited to just 200 7″ vinyl copies or is available digitally. Get it from Bandcamp. Blind Delon – Edouard EP

Excellent post-punk from French act Blind Delon via Spanish label Oráculo Records. The music is a mix of minimal synth-pop coupled with a fair share of Gothic undertones. Stuff like this really cheers me up no end and this EP has been on regular play for the past week. Excellent stuff and is recommended for fans of Factory Benelux and Les Disques du Crépuscule for one (or should that be two?). Available on 12″ vinyl or digitally. Spagat – Spagat

Spagat, which is Splits in German, are a post-punk outfit from Berlin. The self titled lead track is an effort that looks to Interpol rather than say Joy Division for inspiration. It has a well produced, expansive sound that fills a vacuum around you. It certainly sounds impressive on my headphones! Flip side Maler (painter or artist) is a noisier, rougher sounding (recorded live?) affair that could easily be taken from any 1980’s post punk compilation such is the authenticity when it comes to it’s sound. In short this is a release that really should be on the listening list … Continue reading Spagat – Spagat

September Round Up Time!

I have been a bit slack on posting these past couple of weeks but I have some good excuses for that! Firstly I have set up a new record label with my Sleeping Today Promotions collaborator. I have also been helping promote the next Culture Bunker night which takes place on October 22nd and it will also be part of the #keepingitpeel events for 2016. And on to getting back on track and the music that has been grabbing me of late. Indiepop supergroup (?) Tangible Excitement! will  be releasing a new 7″ single shortly on Freakscene (UK & Europe) … Continue reading September Round Up Time!

Strange Passage – Shine and Scatter

I have to say that the Shine and Scatter by Massachusetts based Strange Passage is one of the best debut releases I have heard on Bandcamp this or any other year. There are no fillers on this four track EP and the music harks back to the when UK guitar bands were breaking out from the shadow of post punk. The deadpan vocals of singer/guitarist Renato Montenegro are another plus as he scowls through the thriving, jangling guitars at will. Immense…… Shine and Scatter is available on cassette and digital formats from bandcamp. Continue reading Strange Passage – Shine and Scatter

Commis Voyageur – 16.1

More music from Russia today this time in the shape of Moscow band Commis Voyageur who actually sing in English. Mind you if they sung in their native tongue it wouldn’t matter a hoot because the music & songs are excellent. The band play a strong synth lead version of post-punk/indie with the synths blending in naturally with the singers excellent vocals and the guitars and bass. It’s pretty impressive stuff. The EP is available on a pay what you want basis from Bandcamp . Facebook Continue reading Commis Voyageur – 16.1

Herlights – One Day

Well I am back from my holidays and away from all the punk I have been listening too on bandcamp during that period as well and there is more to come on that another time. Not sure what struck me initially about the One Day EP by Russian band Herlights. It may have been the name or the cover but I am glad I gave it a listen as it is a fine little EP mixing post-punk (those vocals alone) with shoegaze/dreampop and some fine drone/krautrock inspired programming too. Standout track for me is Morning Song which takes all those … Continue reading Herlights – One Day

Motorama – Holy Day

Holy Day by Russian band Motorama is a coldwave orientated post punk tune and has been on play on a regular basis here at Records I Like. Cannot say I have heard much by them previously but thanks to Spotify and bandcamp I have rectified that and most of it deserves your attention. Holy Day is a good place to start as any! It’s out now on 7″ via Talitres. Or pick it up from the band’s bandcamp page. Facebook Continue reading Motorama – Holy Day

Primetime – Pervert

Pervert is the standout track from the new 7″ EP from London’s Primetime. Titled Going Places it’s packed full of post punk influenced tracks that would not have sounded out of place in the late 1970’s. However it’s the catchy as feck Pervert that grabs my attention sounding like a cross between The Buzzcocks, Fire Engines and any number of female fronted post punk bands such as Flowers (the original ones!) or Kleenex. Essential! It’s out now on La Vida Es un Mus. Buy it on 7″ from the label or digitally from the band. Facebook Continue reading Primetime – Pervert

Hard Left – Economy

Another slab of punk and mod infused tunes this time complete with homage to a revolutionary German writer, poetry from the east end, gentrification angst and DH Lawrence quotes. Why can’t all records be like this? It would make a fine present for those poor souls affected by the recent Panama papers….. Economy is out now in 7″, cassette and digital formats. Get it from here.
