Slugger – Stay Loose

Possibly the first ever release I have bought from an artist who hails from Dorking but this EP isn’t a bad place to start. There are four tracks covering a mix of post-punk, lo-fi and DIY noise pop complete with scowling vocals that sometimes sound like they are sprawled in their delivery. Trails is my pick of the bunch here but to be fair there is not a filler track across the whole EP. Worth a listen as it February’s Barb EP. Get it from Bandcamp. Something For The Weekend? Forthcoming Releases

This week’s pack of three focuses on three forthcoming releases to keep an ear out for. Peaness – Seafoam Islands The flip side of the new single due for release at the end of this month on Oddbox Records. Young Romance – Another’s Blood After what seemed like aeons Young Romance finally released their debut album at the back end of last month. Accidente is one of the highlights from this year’s Psiconáutica long player and is packed to the rafters with fuzzy guitars and fuzzier synths. Despite being stricken with man flu I still get bopping. Accidente, like the virus I have right now, is pretty infectious stuff. Play loud! The Fireworks – All The Time

All The Time is taken from The Fireworks new EP entitled Black and Blue. It’s a 1980’s inspired fuzzy indiepop track which is catchy, addictive and most importantly, as demonstrated by the video, FUN! The rest of the EP mixes up the indiepop template a fair bit and if you are a fan of C86 and it’s ilk you will love it. Jessica & The Fletchers – Marble Fountain/Crystal Tears

The new 7″ single from Jessica & The Fletchers serves up two fine pieces of C86 style noise pop. It reminds me of the records released on Lazy Records in their prime such as the likes of The Primitives and the pre-Creation My Bloody Valentine who are just a few of the bands who have provided Barcelona’s finest (and that includes the football team!) with inspiration.
