Summers Gone – A Records I Like Playlist (#1 August 2018)

At one stage I thought I was going to have enough tracks to fill up two to three playlists this month so this one is a bumper crop. As ever click on the image to start. More playlists can be found here and the Playmoss page is here. Continue reading Summers Gone – A Records I Like Playlist (#1 August 2018)

August Round Up #1

Value Void – Babeland Babeland is the second track to be taken from the forthcoming Sentimental album which is due for release next month. Unlike previous track Back in the Day which was a nod to the post-punk era Babeland is much more of a jangling affair and very effective it is too. Facebook Our Girl – I really Like It I have just realised that despite including them on a number of playlists I have yet to give Our Girl a written mention on the blog. Let’s rectify that now and mention their new album Stranger Today is due … Continue reading August Round Up #1

Snowflakes – Sway

On Sway Snowflakes pay homage to all things Sarah Records and I can certainly hear elements of The Wake and Another Sunny Day during the song and that is no bad thing. Flip side New Soul is not so twee and if I had to draw a comparison the Lightning Seeds spring to mind. Despite being around since 2003 this is the first I have heard from this Japanese outfit who luckily for me have their entire discography available on Bandcamp for a bargain price! I suggest you dive in too…. Homepage Continue reading Snowflakes – Sway

Wake In June – Jejune/DP/DR

Wake In June is 20 year old Italian based Enrico Pastore. These two tracks are taken from the forthcoming 1998 EP consisting of jangling guitars and laid back vocals. I can only describe them both as blissful, dreamy indiepop indiepop to erm, chill out too! It’s promising stuff and enough to make me take a listen to the two releases that were released earlier this year. EDIT: The whole EP can be previewed on Soundcloud. Continue reading Wake In June – Jejune/DP/DR

Black Lagoon – A Records I Like Playlist (July 2018 #1)

Well that’s the doors here shut for the next week at least, maybe two as I am off on my hollibobs. Here’s a playlist wrapping up much what I have posted about in July. As ever click on the image to start the playlist! More playlists can be found here and the Playmoss page is here. Continue reading Black Lagoon – A Records I Like Playlist (July 2018 #1)

Gizpel – No Surrender

Judging by their band photo Gizpel not only have a love of English football but the UK post punk scene too. Unlike many of their peers who pay homage to all things Sarah Records Gizpel’s music veers towards the early 1980’s indiepop sounds that was found on labels such as Rough Trade, Cherry Red, Factory et al. The likes of The Wake and The Monochrome Set certainly spring to my mind on the first listens. Grab it from here. Facebook Continue reading Gizpel – No Surrender

Randy Jupiter – Space Boy

Another day and more jangle pop. Canadian’s Randy Jupiter deliver two slices of jangling indiepop tracks which are not too far away of what The Death of Pop have been doing for a couple of years now. I am loving the slow melodic jangle on Hypersped whilst Big on U goes for it big time. Excellent! Download for nowt from here (or give them some dosh on a pay what you want basis). Compilation Week – TBTCI Dives Into Asian Sounds

The Blog That Celebrates Itself Records (TBTCI) specialises in producing compilation tribute album whether to an artist, label or even part of the world. This latest compilation is a roundup of the Asian Scene and includes both covers as well as new or recent original recordings. Musically the album contains indiepop, shoegaze and dreampop. Standout tracks come from Indonesian noise pop outfit See The Eye, Chinese Shoegazers Dear Eloise and Jaapn’s Fluffytails with a gorgeous cover of Lemon’s Chair’s SWallowtail. However Indonesian post-punk outfit Pullo win it for me Round The Bed complete with Ian Curtis style vocals. It’s a … Continue reading Compilation Week – TBTCI Dives Into Asian Sounds

Compilation Week – El Sonido Del Río Hablador (Vol.1)

El Sonido Del Río Hablador (Vol.1) is a twenty track compilation of Peruvian indiepop recordings from 2000-2009 which is well worth investigating. Some of these tracks are pretty raw, some are too bloody twee and some may not even meet the purists idea of what indiepop actually is. However, the further we head into the track listing the quality gets better and there is much to enjoy such as the Field Mice inspired Moon Over Soho, Numen’s excellent Losing You, Ambarina’s dreamy Tambourine and the instrumental Noodles At Bingo’s by Callahan. Highlight for me though is Agnes dice by Subterráneos … Continue reading Compilation Week – El Sonido Del Río Hablador (Vol.1)
