Various Artists – The Official Matinée World Cup EP

With the football, soccer if you prefer, World Cup kicking off next week Matinee Recordings have released a World Cup EP featuring five songs from five artists from countries partaking in this years tournament. Australia’s Last Leaves give us some jangle pop complete with cheering crowds whilst Spain’s The Royal Landscaping Society song harks back to their 2010 triumph. There are more cheering crowds on The Popguns effort Red White And Blue with the band doing their usual jangling thing driving England on to another quarter final defeat – if they make it pass the group stage this time that … Continue reading Various Artists – The Official Matinée World Cup EP

Something For The Weekend – Three from Forthcoming Debut Albums

This weeks pack of three features three tracks from forthcoming debut albums. The Beths – Future Me Hates Me The title track from the forthcoming debut album from New Zealand band The Beths. It’s a fine slice of alt rock that will embed itself into your head due to it’s bounce. The album is out on August via Carpark Records – pre-order it from here. Facebook Young Scum – Wasting Time Superior jangle pop from Young Scum and a prelude to their debut, yet again self titled, album. Wasting Time, like 2016’s Zona, is pure pop perfection. It’s out on … Continue reading Something For The Weekend – Three from Forthcoming Debut Albums

Tinsel Heart – Mona’s Eyes/American Friend

Could this be the long awaited 7″ release on Matinee? I certainly hope so as we have been waiting for Malmo’s Tinsel Hearts to deliver a debut single for some time now. It sounds like they had gone down The Redskins route at the beginning of Mona’s Eyes as it gets a starts off like Lean On Me. Whilst not as funky it is still as dancey. American Friend sees the band returning back to familiar 1980’s jangling indie guitar territory. Tinsel Heart have given us two contrasting songs but more importantly, two very good songs indeed. Now is it … Continue reading Tinsel Heart – Mona’s Eyes/American Friend

More playlists can be found here and the Playmoss page is here. Continue reading Lost and Found – A Records I Like Playlist (April 2018 #1)

Aurora Lights – A Records I Like Playlist (March 2018 #2)

There has been plenty of good “tuneage” this month. Certainly enough to warrant a second playmoss mix for your listening pleasure. There are a number I have written about previously but there are also a number I have yet to mention so give those a listen as a bare minimum. These include tracks by The Angel Makers, Seeing Hands, The Catherines, Lasitud and Klass II amongst others. As ever click on the image to start. Enjoy! More playlists can be found here and the Playmoss page is here. Continue reading Aurora Lights – A Records I Like Playlist (March 2018 #2)
