The Lemons – Hello, We’re The Lemons

The Lemons have collated all their songs into one lovely album. Each one of the 28 songs here, ranging from 30 odd seconds to just over two minutes,  will leave you with a smile on your face. If, like me, you like 1960’s inspired garage/surf songs about jelly beans, daft conversations, elephants and friends then you are in the right place. It’s available to pre-order from Burger Records in vinyl and cassette formats. Alternatively get it digitally from the band. Facebook Continue reading The Lemons – Hello, We’re The Lemons

Rémi Parson – Montmurat

Montmurat is the lead track from Parson’s new EP entitled Montauban which is out early next month on Objet Disque. Like some of his other work, both solo and with his old band The Sunny Street, it reminds me of a Brotherhood era New Order (lazy pigeon holing I know). I cannot really past judgement until I hear the EP in full but in the meantime Montmurat is a lovely, dreamy pop song to ease yourself into a dreary 2016 and I for one cannot to wait to whet my appetite further. Montauban is out on February 1st. Pre-Order it here. … Continue reading Rémi Parson – Montmurat

Records I Like Top 10 2015

2015 was the year I listened to the shoegaze and post punk revivalists in earnest. Club AC30 and Manic Depression Records both deserve a mention alongside the usual cohorts of Dufflecoat Records and Oddbox Records who delivered their signature brand of indiepop, diy and noise pop. I also started listening to full albums again with efforts from The Chills, Beirut and Robert Forster being high on the recommended list. I am still catching up with my backlog though and being heavily played these past few weeks are the likes of Appendixes and Tomiji. So without further ado here is my … Continue reading Records I Like Top 10 2015

Various Artists – Oddbox 2015

Oddbox Records have released a compilation featuring a track from each of their releases in 2015 which showcased some of the finest moments in the DIY scene. It features tracks from Records I Like faves The Manhattan Love Suicides and Chorusgirl alongside other contributions from the likes of T-Shirt Weather, Frozy, Flemmings and a number more. It’s available digitally on a pay what you can basis. Facebook Continue reading Various Artists – Oddbox 2015

Linton And Stewart / The Aislers Set

These are the first released recordings by Amy Linton, she of Henry’s Dress and The Aislers Set, since the latter’s farewell in 2003. On these recordings she is joined by Stewart Anderson (Boyracer). Unsurprisingly the two new tracks here, Looking For A Stranger On The Shore and Pigeons (download version only), sound like a fusion of both bands but given the musical history on show here that is hardly a bad thing. The single also features a mellow unreleased track, Big Ocean, Linton recorded as The Aislers set in 2008. Welcome back! It’s out now via Emotional Rescue on 7″ … Continue reading Linton And Stewart / The Aislers Set

Chorusgirl – Oh, To Be A Defector

It’s will soon be that time of year for list compiling and I have no doubt that Chorusgirl and their excellent New Moon single that was released on Oddbox Records earlier this year will be high up on my list. That 7″ is now long sold out but the good news is that both sides of that single plus a number of other cracking tracks including long time favourite Oh, To Be A Defector can be found on the band’s self titled debut album that is out now on Fortuna Pop. You can order the album from label here or … Continue reading Chorusgirl – Oh, To Be A Defector
