Holy Now – Wake Up

Wake Up is the forthcoming single from Sweden’s Holy Now and it’s time for one of those jaw dropping moments. The dark lyrics jostle with soaring, jangling guitars, pounding percussion and ethereal female vocals. It’s immense to these ears. Wake Up is taken from the band’s Sorry I messed up cassette (which you can get here). It’s also full of excellent tracks including the desolate Please Love Me which will be the singles flip side. Seafang – Motorcycle Song

On their Facebook page Florida’s Seafang like C86, The Shangri-Las, The Shop Assistants, My Bloody Valentine, Black Tambourine and many many more of a similar ilk. So no guessing what their music sounds like then. It’s a wonderful infusion of 1980’s indie, girl bands and even a smattering of shoegaze. Standout for me is the closer Be The One which takes me back thirty years and the sounds of The Primitives and The Darling Buds. Wonderful stuff. Mercury Girls – Ariana

Regular readers (if such as thing exists!) would have noticed I was a somewhat quiet during April and May and now I have a backlog of stuff to post all of which I am sure you have heard before. Jessica & The Fletchers – Marble Fountain/Crystal Tears

The new 7″ single from Jessica & The Fletchers serves up two fine pieces of C86 style noise pop. It reminds me of the records released on Lazy Records in their prime such as the likes of The Primitives and the pre-Creation My Bloody Valentine who are just a few of the bands who have provided Barcelona’s finest (and that includes the football team!) with inspiration. Red Sleeping Beauty – Mi Amor

Mi Amor is the second single since their comeback by Swedish indiepop legends Red Sleeping Beauty. It’s a fine piece of synthpop sung in both English and Spanish. An album, entitled Kristina, will be released later this year. The band will also be making their first live appearance in 19 years at this years Madrid Popfest. The Trudy – Rocket Heart

Rocket Heart, the new single from The Trudy, is taken from their forthcoming album Always Never Beautiful Forever which is due for a release next month. The band have been going since the early 1980’s and there are hooks and influences from each decade of their existence here resulting in a pretty damn near perfect pop song. Pale Spectres – Your Boyfriend’s Girlfriend

Excellent indiepop from Paris that harks back to times gone by especially on the guitars that have a bit of the “Emma’s House” about them.
