Red Sleeping Beauty – Mi Amor

Mi Amor is the second single since their comeback by Swedish indiepop legends Red Sleeping Beauty. It’s a fine piece of synthpop sung in both English and Spanish. An album, entitled Kristina, will be released later this year. The band will also be making their first live appearance in 19 years at this years Madrid Popfest. Mi Amor is out now on Shelflife Records and will also be released on Labrador Records. Facebook Continue reading Red Sleeping Beauty – Mi Amor

The Trudy – Rocket Heart

Rocket Heart, the new single from The Trudy, is taken from their forthcoming album Always Never Beautiful Forever which is due for a release next month. The band have been going since the early 1980’s and there are hooks and influences from each decade of their existence here resulting in a pretty damn near perfect pop song. Rocket Heart is out now via Miron Music. Get it from here. Facebook Continue reading The Trudy – Rocket Heart

Pale Spectres – Your Boyfriend’s Girlfriend

Excellent indiepop from Paris that harks back to times gone by especially on the guitars that have a bit of the “Emma’s House” about them. It’s very catchy and infectious, which funny enough, is just like the cold I have at the moment. Listening to this though is far better than taking Lem-Sip! Pre-order from here. Hate Week – Blunt Claws

Blunt Claws by Hate Week is taken from their forthcoming 7″ release on wiaiwya. They feature previous members of bands such as The Faintest Ideas, The Javelins, Girlfriendo as well as a current member of Love Is All. Blunt Claws is fast and frantic and a fine piece of punk/post punk influenced indiepop. There will be only 77 copies of this 7″ single so hurry up and pre-order it from here. Whalo – Sleepy EP

The debut EP from British/Swedish duo Whalo came out in September last year. If, like me, you missed it the first time round you will be happy to hear that it got another release last week on Spanish cassette label Mondo Canapé Records. It mixes indiepop and alt-rock to great effect and there is plenty here (or should that be hear?) to keep you entertained. Highlight is closing track What’s Left For Us Girls that opens with a distorted telephone conversation then builds up to a crescendo of fuzzy, droning guitars that drown out the wispy vocals. Play that one … Continue reading Whalo – Sleepy EP

Candy – Azure

Excellent bedroom pop from Melbourne’s Candy which is the solo project of Calum Newton from Lunatics on Pogosticks. The songs here are like a journey through indiepop with echoes of the likes of C86 and Sarah Records amongst others being heard. Indeed songs like Reflections of U sound like they come from Glasgow rather than Melbourne. It’s pretty good and I will be checking out his previous work. It’s available on cassette (70 copies only!) from Slovakian label Z Tapes or get it digitally from Candy’s bandcamp page on a pay what you want basis. Flowers – Pull My Arm

Flowers released their second album Everybody’s Dying To Meet You this past Friday and mighty fine it is too. Currently Pull My Arm, which almost did not make the cut, is my favourite track (those vocals!) but it’s early days! The band are currently touring in support of the album and I will see you at the Sebrights in March! Everybody’s Dying To Meet You is out now on Fortuna Pop.
