Chestnut Bakery – Tunnel Party

I first heard the wonderfully named Chinese band Chestnut Bakery on the My Secret World compilation that came out back in August. The title alone should suggest clues on how they sound but if not then how about a mention of Sarah Records? This is classy indiepop with a hint of shoegaze going on in the background. Original no but enjoyable very much yes so! Tunnel Party is taken from the band’s forthcoming album Diaries which will be released later this month. You can get it from here. Night Flowers – Sleep

Night Flowers return with both a new vocalist and single. Sleep is at the poppier end of the shoegazing barometer and new singer Sophia Pettit’s voice is used to great effect alongside the shimmering guitars. Flip side Sitting Pretty sees the band still sounding like an early Pains of Being Pure At Heart but, hey, that is no bad thing. If you want a band that crosses shoegazing with indiepop then you have found them! Sleep is out on Dirty Bingo Records. Get it here. The band will headline the critical nights alldayer on November 1st – details here. Facebook … Continue reading Night Flowers – Sleep

Something For The Weekend #2

Another threesome for your listening Pleasure. Club 8 – Love Dies Love Dies is taken from the bands forthcoming album Pleasure which is out, via Labrador, on November 20th. Given their last albums have covered electronica, dub, bossa nova and trip hop the next one should be interesting based on this track! The Radio Dept. – This Repeated Sodomy Staying on Labrador The Radio Dept. have a new single out. Entitled This Repeated Sodomy it will not be on the band’s forthcoming album. It’s available digitally from the usual places. Chvrches – Leave A Trace (Four Tet Remix) I cannot … Continue reading Something For The Weekend #2

Red Sleeping Beauty – Always

Always in the comeback single from Swedish indiepop legends Red Sleeping Beauty. It’s like they have never gone away as this is the band at their “vintage” best complete with an intro that sounds like OMD’s Enola Gay. Apparently there is more on the way in 2015. I cannot wait given how good this is. Always is out now on Shelflife Records. Order it from here. Facebook Continue reading Red Sleeping Beauty – Always

Don’t Cry Shopgirl – Bring Me Home

Bring Me Home is the lead track from the excellently named Swedish band Don’t Cry Shopgirl’s debut 7″ single. There was a time, almost 10 years ago now, that all I seemed to listen too was Swedish indiepop via self released CDRs  and this track reminds me of that time. It’s influenced by the bands of the C86 (dare I say twee?) era but it’s done oh, so well. Marvellous and I will be ordering a copy come payday! You can pre-order the single from Cloudberry Records. Facebook Soundcloud Continue reading Don’t Cry Shopgirl – Bring Me Home

Alpaca Sports – Just Like Them

Just Like Them is taken from the forthcoming mini album from Alpaca Sports entitled When You Need Me The Most. It’s a bouncy, joyful sounding indiepop tune but beware the double edged sword of the bittersweet lyrics! It’s out on Elefant Records or Luxury Records on October 2nd. It’s available on 10″ vinyl (1000 copies) or on CD complete with extra track (but no mention of a tacky badge!). You can also download Just Like Them for free from Elefant using the code 02EBQKXDQ7AT The band play an acoustic set at the Dufflecoat Records All Dayer in London on Saturday … Continue reading Alpaca Sports – Just Like Them
