Peaness – No Fun EP

The debut EP from Chester’s Peaness is an immensely catchy and enticing one with hook and pulls drawing you in from every angle. Case in point is stand out track Fortune Favours The Bold which is so addictive it should have a health warning slapped across it. I love the way they fuse indiepop with post punk influences which is always a winner in my book. Despite the title there is plenty of fun to be had here! The No Fun EP is available digitally from here. Someone issue it on 7″ vinyl pretty please…… Facebook Continue reading Peaness – No Fun EP

Holiday Tuneage!

It’s going to be a bit silent around here for the next couple of weeks whilst I am away but that doesn’t mean that there will be nothing left to listen too judging by this round up post which features some music I have meaning to mention separately but time etc. First up is The Death of Pop with their new single Bubble Bath that features four excellent indie pop tracks. Not much progression from their previous work but if it ain’t broke………………. The excellent The Choo Choo Trains, who describe themselves as playing “girl-guide Shoegaze”, have a new cassette … Continue reading Holiday Tuneage!

The Haywains – Bobbie Gentry’s Tears E.P

The Bobbie Gentry’s Tears EP is the new EP from indie veterans The Haywains. It features four well crafted lo-fi, DIY songs that cavort through the indiepop model with ease. It’s enjoyable stuff none more so than on Are You Making A Fool Out Of Somebody New? with it’s jangling guitars accompanied by regretful boy/girl vocals. It’s available on 7″ vinyl from Dufflecoat Records or digitally via the band’s bandcamp page. Homepage Continue reading The Haywains – Bobbie Gentry’s Tears E.P

Chorusgirl – No Moon (100 Club Series 7″)

Wow. No Moon is a stonking tune full stop. Can an old man say stonking? Too bleedin’ right I can. Sounding like the past (think Modettes, Dolly Mixture, Girls At Our Best and more recently Liechtenstein) No Moon also sounds right for both present and future dancefloors. The chorus is too die for making the song sound like an updated White Mouse Disco. Flip side Dream On, Baby Blue ain’t bad but to be fair it’s completely blown away by the a-side. The C81 revival starts here………………. It’s out now on very limited 7″ vinyl via Oddbox Records. Get it … Continue reading Chorusgirl – No Moon (100 Club Series 7″)

Sans Néant – Astral / Leaves / Behind

Excellent stuff from Finland. Experimental meets shoegaze, indiepop and noisepop amongst others . There is plenty of stuff on the bandcamp page to download for nowt but this latest release is the best work so far especially on opening track Astrals (Collide) which sounds like a mashup between The Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine. Final track Uphill Shadows is also worth a listen venturing into Aphex Twin territory circa the Richard D. James album period. Nice! Continue reading Sans Néant – Astral / Leaves / Behind
