Pinkshinyultrablast – Find Your Saint

What a tune to come back to after a three week break. The new single from Pinkshinyultrablast could well be the sound of the Cocteau Twins if they were recording now instead of thirty plus years ago. Despite slimming down to a trio the band sound more expansive here. Mixing Shoegaze and dj beats alongside the vocals of singer Lyubov this is fast becoming an instant classic to these ears. Wonderful. It’s out on 1st September via Club AC30. They play both London and Oxford in October on the 20th and 21st respectively. More details here. Blossom Cherry Bloom Sleep – A Records I Like Playlist (July 2017 #04)

I am not sure if Playmoss is making me lazy or if it’s given me the chance to post more music that grabs me more than normal. I certainly post tracks which impress me even if the rest of that band’s output doesn’t have much of an impact on my ears. That is something I wouldn’t do previously. Anyway I will let you decide. Given that this is the fourth playlist this month July has been a cracking month for music discoveries all round and here is a selection of jangle pop, indiepop, dreampop, shoegaze and alt-rock for your listening … Continue reading Blossom Cherry Bloom Sleep – A Records I Like Playlist (July 2017 #04)

Ummagma – LCD

I have to admit I find Ummagma pretty frustrating to listen to at times. When they get it right they are a joy to listen to but sometimes, as in the case of the title track here, it all goes horribly wrong to these ears. LCD is a strange plodding dream pop track full of noises some of which resemble the bleeps you used to get when listening to audio streams to discourage illegal ripping. As these do not appear on the other tracks I guess that is intentional but for what purpose I am not sure. The male vocals … Continue reading Ummagma – LCD

Something For The Weekend? Three Compilations.

This week’s pack of three features three compilations that should keep you busy for this weekend and the next few come to think of it! Ghost Babes Compilation Vol.3 London based cassette label Ghost Babe Records are now onto their third compilation featuring just American bands whether they play garage, slacker rock or punk. Not heard of most of these except for the excellent Wedding Camp but already I am going to dig into the back catalogues of Lost Boy? (try searching that name on Bandcamp!) and Thick. It seems that when the cassettes are sold out the digital version … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Three Compilations.

Within Your Reach – A Records I Like Playlist (July 2017 #1)

Starting this month as we finished the last. Here is another playlist for you to check out. I am particularity fond of the Cattle, Sea Blite, The Sweetest Touch and Battery Point tracks. Still no fillers here or it just be comprised of those four tracks! Continue reading Within Your Reach – A Records I Like Playlist (July 2017 #1)

Something For The Weekend? Three Shozegazers

This weeks pack of three come via from three artists who tag themselves, amongst others, as Shoegaze on bandcamp. Glaze – Wasted Mind EP This EP is nearer post rock than shoegaze thanks to the guitar driven melancholic but melodic tracks contained within. Slow building layers of noise are punctured by sparse vocals that sometimes struggle to be heard behind the sonic wall. The livelier Mercury is the pick of the bunch for me. It’s not my usual fare but it caught my attention. It may get yours too. Get is free/pay what you want from bandcamp. Facebook DAODA – … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Three Shozegazers

Not The One – A Records I Like Playlist (June 2017 #2)

I think I may have solved the problem of embedded playlists (wordpress.com does not support iframe) but with two steps instead of one. A tip on the wordpress.com support boards got me thinking about having a clickable image which brings up a pop-up player. So there you have it and this is a good post as any to try it out so without further ado here is a mix featuring of tracks previously mentioned or soon to be mentioned on this site. It covers a mix of indiepop, post-punk, shoegaze, garage and jangle pop. Enjoy! Alternatively head over to our … Continue reading Not The One – A Records I Like Playlist (June 2017 #2)

Something For The Weekend? Three New Indiepop Releases

This week’s pack of three features three recent melodic indiepop releases. The Golden Rail – Oh My! The Golden Rail are a new band but there is pedigree in their ranks as band members have been involved with the likes of The Palisades and The Rainyard amongst others. Oh My! is the first single to be taken from the forthcoming album Electric Trails From Nowhere. And what a catchy single it is too, ticking all the right boxes along the way. Jangling indiepop at it’s finest. Available in CD and digital formats from here. Facebook Tomiji – Tomiji EP Tomiji … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Three New Indiepop Releases

Sheer – Psychic Quarry EP

I have been culling my bandcamp links left, right and centre these past few days and came across this one I bookmarked a couple of months ago. The reason for this is clear as the opening track on this EP Room is one of the catchier rock tracks I have heard for a while thanks to the vocals and guitars packed full of reverb. The rest of the EP continues in a similar vein mixing melodic indie-rock with hints of dreampop and shoegaze and it’s on the faster tracks (Shut It Off) where they are most effective. It’s good stuff … Continue reading Sheer – Psychic Quarry EP
