The Jasmine Minks – Ten Thousand Tears

The Jasmine Minks are a band that certainly needs no introduction to people of a certain age. Not only were they the first signing to Creation Records they have also been releasing high quality indiepop since 1984 including this, their latest single. Ten Thousand Tears is a finely crafted song that gets you thinking thanks to it’s melancholic vocals and wistful guitars. It’s officially released on the 8th April but orders for the 7″ can be placed here. All monies raised from the single will be donated to fighting Motor Neurone Disease. Next Time Passions – Win The Universe

Greek indiepop veterans Next Time Passions release a new and very limited EP next month via Melotron Recordings. Titled Another Wish it features four tracks with only the lead track Win The Universe being available for preview at this time. But what a track to preview as it is an extremely catchy jangle pop track that harks back to the golden (well not always) days of C86 and Sarah Records. The very limited art package has already gone but 35 limited CD’s remain. Get it from here. Facebook Continue reading Next Time Passions – Win The Universe

Catching Up. Again!

It’s been a busy time at work and as you can tell by the lack of posts I have not had much chance to listen to much new stuff. Preparing for the Culture Bunker’s 5th Anniversary night hasn’t helped either but that’s one chore I am happy to have. Enough of me moaning. Here are some of the tracks I have been listening too. No words from me either! Rocketship/Pia Fraus – Outer Otherness/Cloudy Eyes Split 7″ single which you can get from here. And just as I write this post Rocketship, who offered parts of their track for remixing, … Continue reading Catching Up. Again!

Candybomber – Not Completely Sure

Not Completely Sure is the debut single from Australian based Candybomber who feature Stewart from The Kensingtons in their ranks. It has got everything a great pop song needs: Fuzzy jangling guitars – check! Catchy vocals – check! Singalong lyrics – check! No wonder it has been stuck in my head for a few days now. I am looking forward to the full EP which is due for release in April but in the meantime go and get the track from Bandcamp on a pay what you want basis. Various Artists – CD16

I spotted this compilation over the weekend. It’s inspired by the 30th anniversary of the release of the NME C86 cassette and features a number of bands championed on this blog including the likes of Pale Spectres, Yumi Yumi Hip Hop, E’Spaniel and The BV’s. It’s available on limited edition CD via Peruvian label Impermeable Records. It’s also available as a free download. Facebook Continue reading Various Artists – CD16

Smokescreens – Out Of Time

Out Of Time is a taster taken from the forthcoming self titled release by Smokescreens. Their line up includes Corey Cunningham from Terry Malts/Business of Dreams as well as Chris Rosi of Plateaus. The track itself invokes comparisons to the jangle pop bands that appeared on the C86 cassette but I reckon they like a bit of noise as well which prevents me tagging them as twee. It also has a nice catchy chorus that reminds me of The Pastels. Cannot wait for more. The Smokescreens cassette will be out on Parked in Hell sometime soon. Finishing Off….. 2016

After scrolling through my bookmarks here are some releases that deserved posts of their own but a busier solstice than usual has prevented that so please divert your ears into the direction of the following: Swimming Tapes – Set The Fire / Souvenirs Excellent debut 7″ from this London based alternative pop band. Facebook Son Bou – Cinta Indiepop from Barcelona. Out now on cassette from Snap! Clap! Facebook Kamikaze Girls – SAD Kamikaze Girls could be described as an angrier and noisier version of Curve. Stitches is a must hear. Facebook Fascinations Grand Chorus – Actor/Actress More dreamy 1960’s … Continue reading Finishing Off….. 2016

Battery Point – Battery Point

With a name like Battery Point it should come as no surprise to find this release tagged as C86 and indiepop on bandcamp but the real surprise is just how good these songs are. The essential elements are here including jangling guitars and girl/boy vocals but it’s how infectious these songs become after just a couple of plays that amazed me. None more so than on the closer Violet Dreams where the female vocals become dominant over driving drums with the guitars shimmering and soaring. I have been playing this all morning. I suggest you do the same. Continue reading Battery Point – Battery Point

Catching Up with Long Players!

Young Romance – Another’s Blood After what seemed like aeons Young Romance finally released their debut album at the back end of last month. Because of that the album does have that “best of” feel but given the likes of previous singles Pale and Wild who can really complain? Buy it from here or digitally from the band. Facebook Bubblegum Lemonade – The Great Leap Backward I must admit to having mixed feelings about Bubblegum Lemonade these days. I was not too impressed by July’s Beard On A Bike EP as, aside from the title track, the rest of their … Continue reading Catching Up with Long Players!
