H! is the project of Adicumi Sastroputro who is based out of Cibinong, Indonesia. The project started during the pandemic with Specious Pop being the second EP, following on from 2022’s Nyata.

The four tracks here are fully rooted in indie and twee pop but there is a cinematic grace about them thanks to the polished sounds which in many places err on the side of 1980’s Sophisti-pop. Check out the swirling and lavish sounding Smile as a case in point.

Only the final track Melepas Rindu sounds under produced. Given it was recorded in 2017 rather than June 2024 when compared to the other tracks here suggests that Sastroputro has homed in on his production skill s during the intervening years.

Some may find it all a tad too shiny and pristine under the bonnet but at the end of the day it’s an EP full of honest songs worthy of some of your precious listening time.
