Recommended Releases 08/09/2023

Continuing the series of posting albums and/or EPs as and when they are released (or usually a bit after!) as a follow-up to the initial new tracks/singles posted on this blog. Sample the release via the YouTube track (s) then dive in to the full release.

Pale Blue Eyes – This House

“The new single from the Totnes based Pale Blue Eyes is a driving track with a pounding bassline reminiscent of Tina Weymouth and early post-punk Talking Heads. It’s a buoyant track, that’s to be sure, with the vocals jumping along nicely to the beat of the bassline. More is out now on Full Time Hobby. It’s backed with an extended version that emphasizes and extends those basslines even further.”

This House is out now via Full Time Hobby.

Soft Science – Lines

“The band have also lifted the first single from the album, in the shape of Sadness. It’s a guitar lead song that swirls and jangles amongst shoegaze and dreampop influences. Heavenly stuff!”

(True) “I was surprised how rocky the track started, which reminded me of The Jesus and Mary Chain’s rolling guitar sound post Psychocandy. The song then diverts into the realms of fuzzy alt-rock complete with the ethereal female vocals, that tell the story of unfulfilled dreams”

Kerosene is the second single to be lifted from the forthcoming album Lines that will be released next month. It’s another belter being another swirling indiepop/dreampop hybrid.”

Lines is out now. The release is a collaborative one between Shelflife Records (US), Spinout Nuggets (UK) and Fastcut Records (JP). Remember to support your local label!

Daiistar – Good Time

“Austin based DAIISTAR’s debut single Tracemaker will no doubt remind the listener of an early Oasis on the first listen or two. But did deeper, and you can hear echoes of the likes of The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club or The Jesus and Mary Chain. It’s not a bad choice of a debut single because of that initial comparison, but after listening to a lot more of them on YouTube I can also hear Spacemen Three and the likes of Loop.”

Good Time is out now via Fuzz Club Records.
