The Return To The Fray Sampler #2

The round up continues with another nine tracks to chew your ear.

Here is the Playlist:

Pash – Possession

Possession is taken from the forthcoming Skylight EP. It’s a wonderful, vibrant indiepop track. That EP is out on August 26 2023 and can be pre-ordered from here.

The Radio Field feat. Mimi Welldirty – She Needs Therapy (Single Version)

The band write that this single version is different to its much fuzzier sibling that will be found on the forthcoming album Dont’s And Dos. A fine, melodic and charming indiepop song. The album can be pre-ordered from Subjangle and will be out on August 25 2023.

Soft Science – Kerosene

Kerosene is the second single to be lifted from the forthcoming album Lines that will be released next month. It’s another belter being another swirling indiepop/dreampop hybrid. Lines can be pre-ordered from Shelflife (US), Fastcut (JP) or Spinout Nuggets (UK/EUR).

The Photocopies – Heart Keeps Breaking Down

Heart Keeps Breaking Down is a bouncing yet gloomy indiepop song. Given that all proceeds from the single sold via Bandcamp will benefit the mental health charity Mind you may get some idea of what the words entail during a tale of relationship discord. It’s backed with the very short You’re Gonna Have Somebody’s Eye Out With That.

Peach Gardens – Grey

Grey is a lovely slice of haunting and ethereal shoegaze. It’s, erm, Lush (he gets his coat again!). Seriously, this Moscow band’s output these past couple of months should enlighten anyone’s ear.

Perpetual Void – Tree House

Another fine slice of melancholy that fuses ambient and shoegaze together like they were made for each other. The vocals barely rise above the expansive starry skies.

The Cold Field – Quiet On the Border

Australian post-punk outfit will be releasing their forthcoming third album. Quiet On The Border, which is a song about war, conflict and broken minds, is the first single to be lifted from it. It’s a track that contains all your favourite post-punk ingredients, as well as having an important message.

Glaring – Wie Lange Noch

I was quite taken with Anna Nin’s Glaring project a few years back but for some reason (well, listening to far too much music) saw them leave my thoughts. The good news is I can catch up with her work from last year to date on the new, imaginatively titled 22,23 compilation that compiles various EPs and singles. The haunting coldwave instrumental Wie Lange Noch is one of many stand out tracks. 22,23 is out now via Popnihil.

Panic Pocket – Mr Big

Mr Big is the third single to be taken from the recent, and most excellent, Mad Half Hour album. The song is about “a gleeful celebration of female friendship, and a defiant rejection of toxic, emotionally unavailable men”. And it’s a fine punk-infused pop song to a tee, too. Mad Half Hour is out now via Skep Wax.
